About the Author

Helena Hann-Basquiat dabbles in whatever she can get her hands into just to say that she has. She’s written cookbooks, ten volumes of horrible poetry that she bound herself in leather she tanned poorly from cows she raised herself, and then slaughtered because she was bored with farming. Some people attribute the invention of the Ampersand to her, but she has never made that claim herself. She was completely self-educated in a private institute in the Catskills where she majored in Pop Culture and Unpopular Music. She wrote her doctorate thesis on the films of John Hughes, and awarded herself a doctorate, though it’s not generally recognized. Most recently, Helena published Memoirs of a Dilettante Volume One, and is currently preparing Volume Two for publication. Find more Helena at HelenaHB.com or follow her on Twitter @hhbasquiat

I am already a fan of Helena Hann-Basquiat as well as other contributing authors to this book but to have them together all in one place, writing about Jessica (whose work I am addicted to), is absolute horror heaven. Jessica B. Bell is missing. Trying to answer the question, 'Where is she?' is one thing but better yet is 'Who is she?' I will not writer spoilers. Actually, I can't. There are twists and turns and questions at each one. Just when you think you have it figured out, the game changes. I have the book in paperback and on my Kindle, and am enjoying reading the missing pages. I have no favorite yet. It would be too hard to choose. The detail put into this book is outstanding. The different voices add more of a mystery and I am kept guessing with every turn of the page. That takes a special writing skill which these writers have mastered in spades. I love a book that keeps me interested from start to finish, that I want to read non-stop until I reach the end and then again I don't because I don't want the stories to end. If you love horror and suspense with just a touch of twisted humor from a narrative point of view, this book is definite must read. I keep hoping there will be much, much more.

First let me start off by saying, I love Helena Hann-Basquiat's work. I follow her blog and read every little thing she puts out there because although horror is not really my genre, she writes it so well, that I can't help but be sucked into her world. JESSICA was no different. I followed the serial on the blog and then bought the book because I had to have it - plus, there are 50 additional pages to what was presented on the internet. And those 50 pages are totally worth it. The book itself is gorgeous and the story is wonderful - kept me on the edge of my seat (you never quite know what to expect). I completely recommend.

Jessica was not anything I expected because I never read a book like this before. It's a delicious sampling of many different styles and genres of writing. You get just enough of a taste of each one to leave you not quite satisfied, but eager to experience what's next. I was automatically drawn into piecing together Jessica's story and the mystery of who and what she was. I felt like I was on a horrific and bizarre scavenger hunt as clues and newspaper clippings are planted along the way. Brilliant, strange, dark, and mysterious. I look forward to reading more from all the contributors.

I don’t know how and where the authors of Jessica came up with what they wrote; perhaps a sinister being actually did whisper tales into those ears which they then put to words. Why Jessica hasn’t yet been turned into a Hollywood movie is beyond me. The grotesque scenes were worse than something from the mind of Steven King. Surely if he ever read this novel, he’d be glowing with envy.

The way that this was all brought together was work of pure genius that no other than the mind of Helena H Basquiat could have conceived to bring together. Perhaps this is even too brilliant for her to pull off which leaves you wondering – the how’s and what’s of this novel (is this even a work of fiction?) With a set of writers each masters in their own right; the brilliance of this very unique novel is a true masterpiece of writing art, which the rest of us mere mortals could only admire with a slight feeling of nausea. Indeed I don’t advise reading this on an empty or too full stomach. Nor is it the kind of book to be reading in the dark while there is a thunder storm, unless you want those shadows chasing you in your dreams.

The novel follows the memoir of a psychiatrist as he falls in love with one of his patients Margo. The consequent pregnancy and birth of the resulting child, is a well written account of the most bizarre thing ever. His subsequent search for the child, the reader presumes to be the person known as Jessica B Bell, leads him to many a strange account. What is even more disturbing than the horrific tales this psychiatrist encounters are the newspaper clippings offered up as evidence in the footnotes. What is truth? What is fiction? Who is Jessica? You will just have to read the novel and draw your own conclusions.

Having read the work of Helena Hann-Basquiat and Lizzi Rogers before, I was already a big fan. Now, I'm truly impressed with how this group of writers wove together this well-crafted collection of stories so well. I loved it and urge you to buy the book and read it, too.
