Jessie Hawkins pioneered the art of combining traditional fields such as herbalism and aromatherapy with modern scientific evidence to develop resources and study programs that emphasize both safety and effectiveness. From the beginning, Jessie's unique approach tested the traditional uses of these natural substances against evidence found in modern scientific literature to provide families with a reliable method which eliminates the risky trial and error traditional approach.
Jessie holds a Bachelor's in Environmental Health with a focus on medical anthropology and pediatric prevention. The subject of her culminating project focused on the beneficial interactions between microbes and human health. Jessie also holds a Master's in Health Promotion, which included a formal literature review on antibiotic misuse and alternatives. Jessie has also has postgraduate education in epidemiology from the legendary University of London's School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and is currently earning her doctorate in public health promotion with an emphasis on integrative family health prevention. Jessie's extensive education also includes diplomas and certifications in childbirth education, labor support (doula), clinical herbalism, aromatherapy, aromatic medicine, integrative health approaches to autism and ADHD, and more. This comprehensive background has specifically trained her to evaluate existing and new studies in the scientific literature and translate them into regular language to ensure that our participants are presented with only verifiable, evidence based information.
Jessie has taught professional training and continuing education workshops across the country, has written over a dozen books on various natural health subjects and continues to travel the globe to both provide and receive continuing education. She established Vintage Remedies in 2005 to provide an evidence-based approach to herbalism and aromatherapy through distance learning personal enrichment programs and raised the bar in natural health education through the establishment of the Franklin Institute of Wellness, a fully authorized postsecondary institution offering certification in herbalism and aromatherapy, in 2013. Jessie lives in middle Tennessee with her husband Matthew and their four children.
