This is a such a great book for career guidance!

I wouldn't consider myself the most religious person around, even though i did CCD and learned about the Bible in high school, but the focused stories on Jesus were shared in a very business oriented way that highlight the moral and professional benefits of ethical business conduct.

The book gives homage to Jesus's own way of teaching by sharing modern stories of people who were faced with difficult challenges in their workplace. The point of view of these stories makes it very personal, compelling, and easy to relate to. Their situations are as timeless as the very teachings Jesus shares with us.

I must preface by stating that I got to know Mr. Hartman when he was a candidate for Ordained Ministry in the United Methodist Church and I was on the committee that worked with him when he was an exploring candidate and we all saw the call God had placed on Bruce's life and saw how God was working in his life. This book helps tells that same story we heard orally. I would recommend this book to anyone in hearing how the teachings of Jesus can fit in the business world of America. I myself would use this book in a class that I teach on practical theology as it helps us see how Jesus can be viewed through the eyes of someone who spent many years in the top floor of corporations. I agree with Bruce's ideas that one should put the teachings and ethics of Jesus above all. However, all due respect, it is easier to do it when one is making a larger salary and extensive benefits so if they are consequences for their taking a "Jesus stand" on a company issue they won't have so hard a fall. The average worker who is living paycheck to paycheck struggles with the choice of doing what the boss' say to do even if not the most ethical of actions or going the way of Jesus. This book though does make it clear that Jesus is the way and we should all put our whole faith and trust in him.
This book is not hard to follow and if one is afraid is going to be a stuffy confusing theological tome where you have to reread every other sentence you shouldn't. You don't have to have a Master of Divinity degree to understand what Bruce is getting across. I enjoyed the way he intertwined his personal life and the biblical passages he choose for the premise of each chapter. You get to know Bruce and thus can see where he arrived at this theology. Read it and let the conversation begin. Rev. Gary Frieze

In "Jesus & Co", Bruce Hartman uses plain, straight-forward language (not religionese!) to cite scores of examples gleaned from his own remarkable career how the lessons of the parables are clearly and precisely applicable to successfully and ethically managing corporate business life. I can personally vouch for the veracity of many of these examples having had a "front-row, center" coin of vantage from which I witnessed them play out in real time at both May Department Stores Company and Foot Locker. This enjoyable, even though instructive, read is not "preachy"; on the contrary it gives honest, practical insight how Jesus' teachings are the very definition of what is called in business "best practices".

As I read this book, read the familiar bible verses, I was encouraged. Bruce does not tell us that what Jesus asks of us is too hard or that His words are outdated. He tells the familiar stories of Jesus and His life here on earth, then shows us, today's culture, 2,000 years removed, that Jesus- His message, His example are still very relevant today. Not only is it obvious that Bruce knows Jesus, he believes God's word and is faithful to living it out in the business world where his example points to Jesus who declared, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life."
