About the Author
Jodi Detrick is an author and religion columnist for The Seattle Times, one of America s leading newspapers. As a personal coach and a speaker for many groups across America, Jodi loves to talk to people at heart-level about things that matter most. She is finishing up a doctorate from AGTS (Assemblies of God Theological Seminary) and serves as national Chairperson for the Network for Women in Ministry. Jodi lives with her husband, Don, in the rainy Pacific Northwest.
If you ask what I want to do for the rest of my life, here's what I ll say: I want to keep having meaningful conversations with others about things that matter...I want to write in a way that compels minds to think, hearts to open, and spirits to stretch Godward on tiptoe. I want to resist the pull to play it safe, be moderate, & show only my best side. When I pray, "Be big in me, O God," I want to mean it. And one more thing...I want to eat cupcakes with lots of frosting whenever possible.

The 10 Leadership Qualities Jodi identifies; Confidence, Authenticity, Humility, Stamina, Resilience, Courage, Self-Awareness, Kindness, Soul-Care, and Vision are qualities needed for leadership regardless of gender. The world needs more Jesus-Hearted PEOPLE, and Jodi's book beautifully demonstrates what those qualities look like, and how to develop them. Jodi's Coaching Questions, Leadership Lessons and Bible Study section at the end of each chapter make this a perfect book for leadership teams to use as a group study.
The Jesus-Hearted Woman is a gentle, but courageous book which will inspire every reader to be an "Enduring & Endearing" leader.
For women, the book is a treasure of gems Jodi has mined through her journey in life that has taken her from the relative obscurity of being a small town pastor's wife and mother to becoming a national leader of women in ministry, a widely sought after public speaker, life coach, and columnist for The Seattle Times. She leverages those experiences to help you discover the heart of Jesus, and how to become a Jesus-Hearted person.
I'll admit I might be a bit prejudiced as the husband of the author. We married young and it has been my joy to cheer her on for three decades as she has developed as a leader and developed countless other leaders along the way. Having watched her up close and personal, I can attest to her authenticity, and genuine love and heart for Jesus and others. You'll learn from Jodi's mistakes, feel the butterflies as she takes leaps of faith, rejoice in her victories, and weep with her sorrows. You'll learn how to become a "first clapper" and cheer others on as I have watched her do countless times.
One person recently wrote, "As I am reading this book, I feel like I am having a conversation with a trusted friend." You will, too. And as your heart becomes more Jesus-centered, your own life will be enriched and your influence for Jesus Christ will spread to others. As Jodi says, "If you have the heart, you can learn the skills."

It is easy to read. You will feel as though Jodi has come to your home with a steaming cup of coffee, and sat down with you in a comfy chair to share her heart and wisdom.
But make no mistake, Jodi's words will not just make you laugh and smile, they will challenge you and inspire you to lead and live a better life....one worthy of the calling of Christ Jesus.
I am confident if you read this book you will be encouraged. I believe all leaders, at all levels should take time to read this book. Each chapter takes a look at a different leadership quality, it's importance and significance in the life of a leader; especially one who wishes to have the heart of Jesus. At the end of each chapter, Jodi encourages you to contemplate these leadership qualities even more as she gives you coaching questions to ask yourself and/or others who may also be reading the book. She also has a short Bible study at the end of each chapter to solidify the Biblical significance of each leadership quality.
I can't encourage you enough to take the time to read this book. It will make you laugh, perhaps cry, challenge you, but most importantly I know it will help you in your leadership journey.
The leadership principles are practical, the stories engaging, and the forgiveness for mistakes abundant. Each chapter ends with reflective questions and short self-studies to help the reader apply the lesson to her heart.
I am grateful for Jodi's honesty and transparency and her ability to articulate these leadership qualities in such a graspable manner. Be prepared to be encouraged in your growth as a leader whom anyone would be delighted to follow.
