Review

iNext to the Bible, itis the most important book Iive ever read, for it unveils the heart of the most extraordinary man who ever lived far better than 50 years of sermons Iive heard. (Mike McManus Syndicated religion and ethics columnist 2004-06-03)

iThis book charms us with mind and faith stretching ideas. . . . We wonit use it as a basis for a new theology, but the one we already have will be enriched, challenged, and deepened. (Jay Kesler President emeritus of Taylor University 2004-06-03)

. . . a thought-provoking and imaginative exploration of the humanity of Jesus. His possible feelings, experiences, sources of strength and motivation throughout His life on earth, in the form of an informal interview with the author. . . . Both fascinating and moving, this quite plausible einterviewi will certainly open up new areas of the incarnation of Someone who was and is both fully God and fully man to you. (J.R. 2004-11-01)

"Imagine that you were given the opportunity to interview Jesus, the more remarkable human being of all time. What would you ask? What would He say? Imagine that this Man has agreed to talk about how He came to this unique position in history, how He came to realize for Himself who He really was, and what His thirty-three years on this earth were like." (WIN-Informer 2004-11-01)

From the Publisher

In this fascinating and enlightening new book, Dr. Andrew G. Hodges conducts an imaginary interview with the most influential person in history, Jesus Christ. A psychologist and a Christian, Dr. Hodges draws on his professional background and a profound knowledge of Scripture to "interview" Jesus on a fascinating variety of the most provocative and challenging topics from his life and teachings.

Why did God allow evil in the first place?

What was it like when you first realized who you really were?

How did your family react when you performed your first miracle?

Why were so many unable to believe in you even then ?

Why did you have to die on the cross?

What really happened at the resurrection?

Jesus' candid answers to these and many other questions give readers added insight and a clearer understanding of His timeless message. From this "first-hand" account of Jesus Christ's remarkable life emerges a truly human portrait of Jesus-both as man and God. Moving and unforgettable, Jesus : An Interview Across Time adds a powerful, surprising new dimension to the greatest story every told. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Although it is fiction, this 1st person account of Jesus' answers to the interviewer's questions is completely Scriptural. I found myself identifying with Jesus as He Himself identified with people. Checking Biblical references validated His statements of being both fully man and also God. Aside from the Bible itself this book has given me insights into the life of Jesus above anything else I have read. I recommend Jesus: An Interview Across Time for thoughtful reading, Scriptural investigation, prayerful meditation.

I loved this book. I had never given thought to the way Jesus would have learned from the scripture (which every Hebrew boy would have studied) that HE was the Messiah.
I had also not pictured Him laughing and enjoying His friends, His followers, but He certainly WOULD have!
Dr. Hodges explains so well how the scholars of Jesus' day CHOSE to deny "over three hundred specific prophesies about the Messiah" which were obviously fulfilled in Him.
He makes it easy for me to imagine how His mother must have thought she was the perfect parent...until she had other children who could be disobedient, selfish and mean.
There are hundreds of thoughts which Dr. Hodges has put on paper which are profound and thought-provoking. I highly recommend this book and it is truly worth reading more than once!
The divinity AND humanity of Jesus were never more clearly presented to me.

The conservative evangelical environment that I was brought up within leaned heavily upon the presentation of the divinity of Jesus, the second member of the Triune God. In that setting we doted upon his prophetic utterances and the tricks with fish and bread that he did. In that "us versus them" we thought it okay to hope for the day when Christ would return triumphantly as a judge to, well, vindicate "us" and polish off the various groups of "them" that we had so clearly defined.
To twist the Apostle Paul's statement around, when I was a child I thought as one.
Andrew Hodges book helps readers to wrestle with a very human Jesus, a flesh and blood person that is probably more important on a micro level than the sort of divine superman disguised by sandals and toga that we were used to hearing about. It is a misnomer to think that we are "saved" solely by what Jesus did on the cross. We are also saved by what he did in his life, his struggle to overcome, to wrestle with the forces of evil and to walk blameless and uprightly. If he did all these things with aid of divinity, then it really has no bearing on me as a fumbling morass of material existence.
This book gets into that struggle, offering potential insights into the thought process that a human being wrestling with real issues would go through. Hodges helps me identify with the person Jesus so that he is much closer. I have more affinity with a Jesus in Gethsemane where he angsts over what is to come than I do the resurrected Lord. At least, at this point of the journey.
When you're done with lapping up the milk, buy this book and chew on some meat.

Good book! Being fully human is an oft not-believed/grasped truth about Jesus. Hodges writes as if Jesus really was fully human as the scriptures teach - with all the questions, emotions and lessons as he learns to trust and relate to a heavenly father as a human like me. What strikes me is that Jesus claims that we can have the same depth of faith and relationship that he developed if we follow his teachings and example as if they are ours to experience. Most humbling and thought-provoking reflection on my own humanity as shared by Jesus.

Dr. Hodges takes a fictional "what if", a sitdown interview with Jesus Christ, and presents a fascinating look at the historical Jesus. This very thoughtful and researched book provides inspiration because Dr. Hodges' own professional background allows a unique insight into the events that shaped Jesus' life and his mission. I COULD NOT PUT THE BOOK DOWN! I have READ the book at least a DOZEN TIMES. I am a PLAYWRIGHT and this book inspired me to write my own one person play about the life of Jesus. I used Dr. Hodges' book as one of the background sources for my play, AN EVENING WITH JESUS. Let me tell a story about the first time I presented this work. Because of my background in theatre, I was asked if I would provide entertainment to an audience of severely mentally handicapped men, women and children. They were on a weekend retreat and my time was to be on Saturday evening. I really didn't know what to do so I thought I'd take the rough draft of AN EVENING WITH JESUS. After about an hour and a half, I still had the attention of an audience that I was told "would probably fall asleep" on me within the first 15 minutes. They loved the story of Jesus that I had written because it gave Jesus a very human presence in their lives. And this is what Dr. Hodges' book, JESUS AN INTERVIEW ACROSS TIME, gives readers - an intimacy with a very real Jesus who we are able to see and understand from his life on earth.

I love this book.
I read it when it first came out, having found it at a Hastings Book Store mixed in with all manner of other books as was done in those days.
I loved it then, have kept it, recommended it, and now, I am buying it again in Kindle and Audible.
As I said, I love this book.
