The Christian church is falling apart and in desperate need of a revival. According to professor Sweet (The Church in Emerging Culture: Five Perspectives) and bestselling author Viola (From Eternity to Here), £what is lacking is a groundbreaking revelation of Christ that boggles the mind and enraptures the heart.¥ Expanding on the authorsÖ 2009 online manifesto, this insistent, impassioned essay condemns as pharisaic those preachers who forgo a Christ-centered theology in favor of a cute, singular slogan or mission. The authors urge churches to focus on the man who embodies the entire religion. To do so, readers must learn the subtle distinction between following Christ and realizing Christ already lives within them. Some may find this message controversial, even pantheistic. Yet the biblical passages show the message is rooted in Scripture. The authors provide a lot to digest, but quotations from poets and philosophers break up the text and help readers grasp abstract concepts. Though most applicable to pastors and seminarians, all Christian readers will discover a new perspective and deeper purpose.

"Jesus Manifesto" is a milestone in Christian literature - a spiritual masterpiece. It is both timeless and timely. The book contains a breathtaking unveiling of the beauty, glory, and wonder of Christ that speaks to both the head and the heart (something that few books combine today). The style of writing blends poetry with prose and is brilliantly sprinkled with metaphor. The content is illuminating, compelling, and even prophetic. Epic, true to Scripture, faithful to the testimony of the historic church, filled with seminal insights and written with exceptional prose, this little volume is a clarion call to return to the supremacy of Jesus Christ. For all of these reasons, "Jesus Manifesto" has come along "for such a time as this." -- Searching Together/Baptist Reformation Review --Searching Together/Baptist Reformation Review

Behold the Ancient of Days, He who holds all things together, the Alpha and the Omega, the One who causes the stars to shine, the seas to rise and fall, the vast, trackless, never-ending, all encompassing, all fulfilling person of our Lord. This is the God whom we serve, love, and hold dearer than all. Such is the portrait this book attempts to paint.
While such an accomplishment is beyond human capability, the authors have created a work of stunning beauty that every follower of Jesus will benefit from tasting, savoring, and feasting on. Not that we feast on mere words of men, but on the portion of Christ they have received from the Holy Spirit and are offering as a sweet, nourishing honeycomb to share with us as their brothers and sisters in Him.
This book was different. For, perhaps the first time, I came away thinking: This is exactly what every Christian needs at this point.
Chapter 8 was a revelation!
To stop striving to act like Christ but rather let Him BE in us and do HIS works through us!
Liberating but sobering at the same time. Only Christ will and can change the world. He has chosen to do it through His body, which is the church.
I believe every leader in the church, leaders of the denominations, and every Christian needs to read this book and seriously ask "what are we doing in the Church that we need to stop doing," and "what are we not doing that we need to start doing." And most importantly, "how do we put Christ back at the head of the church and not relegate him only to personal quiet times, or worse the classroom where he is dissected as subject matter. Christ is too big to be contained in theology or a private devotion at home. He is the mover and shaker of our Church, of our entire world(!) and we need to invite him back in where we have replaced him with watered down versions of himself. Where we have replaced him with commissioned and accredited teams to study the effectiveness of church and denominational programs, and 3-5 year financial planning, and leadership conferences... the focus is entirely too much on the storm raging outside the boat when we have forgotten Jesus is also on board. Let's go wake him and see what he wants to do!!!
The whole world couldn't contain the books describing all of the wonderful things about Christ and His marvelous works so when approaching this book look at it as a brother or sister in the Lord pouring out their hearts to you of all the wonderful things they have come to know of Christ. May your heart also become enthralled with Him and return to the place of first love and move to an even greater love as you see new glimpses of Christ.
I found that the sharing in the beginning of the book about how to approach the scriptures with Christ only in view allows you to really touch His life through them. Instead of viewing the Bible as just an ultimate book of principles and wisdom but now seeing it as much more than that as it truly is a firm and powerful arrow pointing to Christ. In Jesus Manifesto we are reminded that the Word of God is in fact living and active and shows us that Christ is the living word and to exalt and extol Him with and through the scriptures instead of exalting and extolling the scriptures at the expense of the very One it points to.
The Jesus Manifesto is a powerful reminder to Turn our Eyes upon Jesus.
