''The Jesus Storybook Bible: Every Story Whispers His Name' disproves the adage that you can't judge a book by its cover. Jago's award-winning cover art is a foretaste of the whimsically insightful and richly colored drawings that await you on every one of the book's 351 pages. The illustrations alone are worth the price of the book....Jago the illustrator, and Sally Lloyd-Jones the author, are a good pair. She brings the same creativity and sense of humor to her telling of the Bible's stories....But Lloyd-Jones's writing isn't cutesy. She has a grasp of the profound. How does one explain to a child the agony of Jesus in Gethsemane, and his prayer of surrender to his Father? Lloyd-Jones does it as well as any biblical commentator....The title and subtitle are even better than the book's delightful illustrations and narrative -- because they provide, in one deft stroke, the interpretive key that unlocks the meaning of the whole Bible. 'The Jesus Storybook Bible' says it all: The Scriptures are not merely a collection of stories designed to teach moral lessons. As Jesus explained to the men walking the road to Emmaus on Resurrection Sunday, the whole Bible is about Jesus. In the words of the subtitle, every story whispers his name....Lloyd-Jones manages to show again and again the presence of Christ in all the Old Testament Scriptures, and the presence of the Old Testament Scriptures in the life of Christ.' (Christianity Today)
The Jesus Storybook Bible is, in my opinion, one of the best resources available to help both children and adults see the Jesus-centered story line of the Bible. Tullian Tchividjian , Senior Pastor of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church (PCA, Fort Lauderdale, FL.)
The quality and originality of this retelling of the Bible is impressive. Difficult concepts for children are clearly explained within the context of their stories. The text blends perfectly with the strong color and texture of the illustrations, which are original and lively and a million miles from ‘traditional’. The book, enhanced by the audio retelling will appeal to all children, not just those from a Christian background. This purchase was specifically for the audiobook version of The Jesus Storybook Bible. David Suchet does an amazing job narrating the text. His speech is clear and filled with appropriate emotion, drawing in the listener. My 4- and 5-year-old boys love to listen to it as much as I do. I'm extremely picky about the narration of my audiobooks, and this one passes with flying colors.
God's plan of redemption is brought into every story.....which is especially wonderful in the Old Testament stories. I purchased this book as an app for my Kindle so that I would have it with me when ever I was with my grandchildren and we were minus their favorite books. The illustrations are very contemporary and have a wonderful flair. I gave this book a 4 star not a 5 only because the word "storybook" and the word "bible" together can cause some problems for me as I believe God's WORD to be inerrant and "story booking" the Word of God gets a little dicey for me....but the target audience will love it and be blessed by it.

Granted there are perhaps a couple of unnecessary embellishments to which a few object, but on the whole this is the best Bible I have seen for young children (or older ones who are not familiar with the Bible)
A clear understanding of both Old and New Testaments makes it child's play!
1) The illustrations by Jago are well adapted for young children; colourful, humorous, non-threatening, inviting.
2) David Suchet's voice on the 3CDs is perfect: the intonation, the meaning given, all warms one's heart.
3) Sally Lloyd-Jones must be world-renowned for this work: it is a masterpiece. No matter what your beliefs, stop awhile and listen. Here is Good News.
The way Sally weaves Jesus into the Old Testament stories was the most inspiring element for me. Old became New, and suddenly made sense.
She also avoids genealogy lists, violence, and grown-up sins. This makes it more acceptable for younger readers.
I love the book. I love the 3 CD's. I highly recommend this work. Buy it as a present, for anyone: 3 year olds, grandfather, and everyone in-between. I'm going to send this De-Luxe version to my son who is 23. It is the best introduction to the Bible I've ever seen.
I really love this truly beautifully written way of retelling God's story for children and as a long standing christian and Sunday School teacher it has affected me greatly. I would recommend this book to ALL Christians and the God-curious. I bought this copy as a gift for a work colleague's daughter aged 5 who is really loving it. I use my own copy extensively in Sunday School. It makes for a perfect gift and there are also DVD's and an audio CD available (read so well by David Suchet of Poirot fame).
I like this Bible because the stories are long enough for a 9 or 10 year old not to feel patronized, but explanatory enough for a 5 year old to understand. My one criticism is that the pictures are a bit dull for the little ones, but a small price to pay for a great children's Bible.
I don't think this is the best Bible for a toddler - try Beginner's Bible or similar.
I love the illustrations and my children are loving having a story every night.
I have already recommended this book to several Mums.
I bought this book for use with Church children's groups, but have found it really enjoyable to read to myself, and have even read parts of it to adult Church.
It does not just tell the Bible stories, it connects with them, and speaks so strongly of the love God.
