Problems on assembly:
1) Center hole on cast iron base @ both ends was not centered + did not line up to the leg cross brace. Fix: used air grinder to grind cross brace hole wider.
2) Instructions for the installing the adust. feet were vague. Just says use "provided hardware". Fix: used my incredible powers of observation and deduction to determine what goes where.
3) The leg cross brace opposite of motor has an interference problem w/switch box. Fix: ground the cross brace to form a notch to clear switch box.
Usage:
1) table for vertical cuts is flimsy. Only single support underneath - needs 2. could not level table since there is no adjustment.
2) Adjustment of eccentric bearing requires a thin wrench to fit between bearing + support casting.
3) The blade covering has to be put on "just right" otherwise interference with the stop bolt occurs.
4) When moving the miter vise plate, the hold down bolt interferes w/the screw that holds the scale strip. Loosening the bolt enough will get past the interference unless the angle you want is right where the interference occurs.
In general:
The motor has enough power for cuts. I've been cutting 4130 .125 steel and the motor never bogged down. Horizontal cuts is this machines best use. vertical cutting leaves a lot to be desired but this could be because the blade's tooth pitch did not match up to the metal type. But,as stated above, the table doesn't help.

I'm not a home improvement enthusiast. Don't know why Amazon put that there. (Stupid!) I'm a hobby machinist.
I compared several different Asian made 5x6 bandsaws. Don't believe it when someone tells you they're all the same.
The Jet was very easy to assemble and use. Very solid base. UL approved motor that is bigger than some other bandsaws have. Nice fit-and-finish.
Some other ones I checked on needed to have additional bracing added due to a flimsy base. I had read about some of the others having motors prone to overheating and meltdown.
Bought mine locally for $249.99. Don't understand how Amazon can charge a $70 premium. Around $250 seems to be everyone's prices except Amazon. $319.99! Ridiculous!

For what it does and the price it is a good value. Important to keep it maintained with periodic lubrication or it will seize and the blades is likely to break. Good idea to get at least one extra blade as they break without warning and long before the teeth are worn down. The cut-off switch works well so you can start it cutting and walk away to do something else.

For almost any length of stock you will need a separate support for it. Unfortunately the height of the cutting bed is lower than any roller stand I have found so I ended up putting the bandsaw on a couple pieces of OSB to raise it a couple of inches.

The stand is barely able to support the weight of the cast iron saw and is the real weak point of the bandsaw. A stronger and taller stand would be nice and it will be one my next projects. The stand that comes with the bandsaw is barely strong enough to support the wheels as the bandsaw is wheeled into position.

Not a bad saw for the price. Cuts true and reliably. I rewired the motor for 240 off the bat according to the manual as I found after continuous duty the motor was heating up to the point where it was almost too hot to touch. The first project any purchaser needs to make is a new stand for the saw. The 14 ga. sheet metal legs are an afterthought by JET apparently. Throw a 24 ft stick of square tube on the saw bed and watch it squat. Next, the included legs place the saw at an uncomfortably low height where most material roller stands cannot drop to support the other end.

So tweak it, set it up right, and it will cut well. Just keep in mind all you are paying for is a solid bow, base, and motor.

This is a compromise saw. It's smaller than it looks (table height about 24") and of course the jaw will only cut up to 5" OD. And it only has 3 speeds. However for the price, it's well made and does the job it's supposed to do. Putting it together was very easy and it worked right out of the box. For a DIY or small shop, it's a great addition. It's also pretty quiet.

UPDATE: We have now had this saw for 2.5 years and can give additional info:

First thing, Disclaimer: Do this at your own risk. I'm not liable for injury if you do this.

#1. It's a blade killer for the following reasons:

A. We removed the blade guards. (The little read ones to the left and right of the "jaw.") The problem we found was that they are not engineered correctly and it's very easy to bend or mis-align them. If that happens it can catch on the blade and snap it.

B. The blade alignment guides can and do seem to loosen up on their own. They are cams and you turn them to align the blade. But for some reason we have found at least 1 of them (usually the one on the right rear (toward the inside of the blade) will loosen up and then the cam turns and puts too much tension on the blade and it snaps.

C. There is a part on the left side of the blade at the jaw that positions the blade. On our saw it has to be positioned all the way "out" (away from the unit, toward the operator) to position the blade straight across the opening to get straight square cuts. This device seems to get knocked out of alignment easily. You have to check it all the time. If it moves in, it cuts crooked and may contribute to the blades breaking.

D. You must use .
