On other flashlights if you are on mid-brightness you have to jump (cycle) through highest settings before reaching the lowest. This is not smart and you actually have to blind someone before you can turn on the lowest setting.
On this light you can turn the control ring either way to either lower or raise the output without cycling through all modes. This light has plenty of output for even the most demanding jobs....and at its lowest settings it can run for a month+ The beacon mode is also very useful if you put it down in darkness and have problems finding it later. It will output a short soft "beep" of light so that it can easily be found.
Pair it with quality protected orbtronics 18650s (with Panasonic cells) and you'll have a great combo, it takes 3 x 18650x. Much larger than Tiny Monster lights in size but stays cooler for longer and actually has a nicer beam pattern.
Build and finish is absolutely perfect and there is a port to connect a dedicated momentary switch if you mount this to a firearm. One can buy a rail mount and a handle if so desired. I found it easier to carry without the handle
The RRT-3 can take CR123s (6) or 18650s (3). I have heard that there is a tight fit for some high output 18650s but it fit my Ultafire BRC3000s (18.6mm, length 68.9mm; 2400-2600 mAh) just fine.
My only quibble is that my light was a kit with the rail mount and handle, which facilitates long-term carrying. The set screw that holds the rail mount in place has is a bit hard to align with the dimple on the light so the protective metal cup popped out. Neither the seller nor JetBeam seemed too excited about this and told me to glue it back in. Nevertheless, this is a $325 flashlight that should have better warranty service.
Whether you are in law enforcement, the military, or just a collector, this is an investment from which you can derive life-long performance.
I found a JetBeam 600 lumen model at a gun show last week for $70, and am blown away by it, and in doing research on it I came across this 1950 lumen Raptor. I got it yesterday, and the batteries today and, mygodit'sbright....
The handle I'm not sure I'd need, it's not that heavy of a light and the handle is fairly small, but the weapon rail mount will definitely come in handy once I get the right external switch for it.
I can't wait for dark to go out and mess with the owls.
