About the Author
Chris entered academic debate in 1993 as a public school teacher in North Dakota. Chris realized the tremendous impact the activities had on students' lives, so forensics quickly became his love.
When HSLDA started their own league in 1997, Chris jumped on board by becoming the Minnesota Speech and Debate Coordinator. While public schools financed his jumping all over the state, the homeschool debate league lacked the funds. Chris birthed "Jeub Debate Publications," where he produced the league's first debate handbook that gave flesh to the yearly resolution.
Chris left teaching to pick up an editing career with Focus on the Family in 2000. Through Focus, Chris met Eric Ludy (Eric & Leslie Ludy Ministries) and started Training Minds Ministry, a ministry devoted to providing educational opportunities to families participating in speech and debate.
Chris left Focus on the Family in 2004 to devote more time in Training Minds Ministry. His two oldest daughters have been through speech and debate and are now graduated, but his nine other children (all under 13) are revving up for the program. Chris coaches Peak Communicators of Colorado Springs through the competitive season.
Chris is available to speak at home school conferences, churches, and education conferences. Topics include:
* Making academic debate a central part of your educational philosophy
* Engaging the year's academic debate topics
* How to coach a club
Being the father of such a large family, Chris (with his wife, Wendy) has spoken on the dynamics of fatherhood, parenting, and home management. Chris is an elder of a family-integrated church The Mountain in Castle Rock, Colorado.

This book was written by a homeschool family for other homeschool families. It covers different types of spoken competitions - oratory, debate, etc. It gives helpful suggestions for ways to get your kids started early to be comfortable in front of an audience. It covers ways to prepare, how competitions are scored, etc... It has been very useful to my in my preparation of a high-school debate class that I am teaching in my Co-Op. It is very easy to read.
