The topic of Jewish eugenics has been systematically suppressed and is only now being timidly taken up by a handful of Israeli and American scholars. An unbiased look at eugenics.

This is a very different kind of book on eugenics. I have read several before as part of my interest in the nature/nurture debates, demographics, etc. This book is divided up into two primary sections. The first one is a general discussion about Jewish involvement in eugenics and how eugenics became linked ultimately to racism and the Holocaust Memorial Movement. Whenever an author writes a book about why this or that group behaved in a certain way, it is very hard to prove absolutely. Sure, there are verifiable facts, but that does no prove the truth of his argument.

In the second part of the book however, Dr. Glad supplies hundreds of facts in chronological order, from 1844 right up to 2010. He explains in each period--earlier years lumped together and later years individually--what was the context, the Jewish advocacy of eugenics, and the Jewish rejection of eugenics. In this way he flushes out very clearly the history of the eugenics movement and how it impacted eugenics in Western culture. He doesn't preach in his treatment of eugenics, and he doesn't target some wayward individuals in the eugenics movement like so many other authors have done. He sticks to the facts and lets the reader decide the moral issues surrounding eugenics.

I am in the middle of reading this book, just started a few wks ago. It's a good book, very informative. A good history lesson, if you will. My frist kind of book like this. I had no clue Eugenics was, until I had watched Haunted history. It was about a box that possible haunted. & it went into Hitler & to Eugencis. It had me interested. It's somthing that happened, that should not be forgotten.

Hitler was into dysgenics not eugenics or evolution

The Christofascism, PZ Myers, Richard Steigmann-Gall, rationalwiki.org, nobeliefs.com, and other sources concur with this accurate textbook. Eugenics and Dysgenics are not the same thing as Evolution. Adolf Hitler was a Christian-Creationist, not a Darwinian Atheist. “We tolerate no one in our ranks who attacks the ideas of Christianity. Our movement is Christian,” proclaimed Adolf Hitler in Passau on October 27, 1928. Charles Darwin's books On the Origin of Species and The Descent of Man were officially banned in Nazi Germany from 1935-45.
Before 1933, eugenics was a very Jewish business. In 1916 a eugenicist named Rabbi Max Reichler wrote Jewish Eugenics: and Other Essays. Reichler wrote, "The Jews, ancient and modern says Dr. Stanton Coit, have always understood the science of eugenics and have themselves in accordance with it, hence the preservation of the Jewish race." In John Glad's words, "Eugenics - inadvertent and explicit, historical and current - lies at the very core of Jewish identity."
Zionism (the ideology espousing a Jewish state since the 1890s) and Jewish eugenic concerns (the preservation and improvement of the Jewish gene pool) emerged as two faces of the same coin. John Glad contradicts the popular myth that eugenics was the ideology of the Nazi Holocaust. On the contrary, Hitler's Holocaust was the very anti-thesis of eugenics, for it was an attempt by the Nazis to exterminate a class of intellectual humans (e.g., Nobel Prize nominees, professors, doctors, and other geniuses who happened to be Semitic, Slavic, part-Mongol, non-Aryan, or Communists). The Nazi Holocaust was dysgenic not eugenic.

A powerful contribution against prejudice

The author dedicates his book to the memory of those Jewish and non-Jewish eugenicists who were defamed and persecuted in the Western world, some of whom had earliers driven into exile from Hitler's Germany, even as others of their colleagues perished; in homage to both eugenicists and their opponents who were victimized, imprisoned, and murdered under Communist rule; in acknowledgement of today's eugenicists - again both Jewish and non-Jewish - who continue their struggle to defend the genetic patrimony of future generations.

The author, already known by this book Future Human Evolution: Eugenics in the Twenty-first Century , has written an erudite history of eugenics in the past century. The one who has read this book will see the world with another eyes.
