Calvin L. Smith was raised the son of missionaries to the Gypsy people of southern Spain, where he attended school during the latter years of the Franco regime. After returning to the United Kingdom he earned degrees in Education/Languages and History/Politics before completing a Ph.D. in Theology at the University of Birmingham. He researches and publishes in the areas of Latin American Protestantism, Evangelicalism and politics, Pentecostal Studies and the relationship between the Church and Israel. He is Principal of King's Evangelical Divinity School, teaching Theology and Hermeneutics, has travelled extensively, broadcasts, and speaks widely on his research and teaching interests.
