Jiffy-7 Jiffy Quality The Jiffy-7 pellet is made from sphagnum peat from specially selected peat bogs. Lime and a special fertilizer with a low ammonium content are added to the peat in order to stimulate growth. The pellets have a pH of approximately 5.3 and are wrapped in a thin, degradable net.
Top customer reviews
Would I recommend these Peat Pellets to buyers that are on the fence? Absolutely. I am a one-time buyer and I am already convinced of the efficacy of this product. Go with it. Besides, what does it cost $13 after tax? That's about one pack of cigarettes and 4 additional if you live in Chicago. Or, 3 packs of High-Fructose Corn Syrup 12-pack soft drinks. Or, mabye 64 bananas from the produce department.
Edit to update. It has now been twelve days since I started a bunch of seeds for a vegetable garden in these pellets. As expected, a bunch of stuff came up within a few days but since then not much activity. Overall, I've had 15 of the 48 (should have been 50) pellets sprout anything. I've been using pellets to start for awhile so I'm not inexperienced with them. I used a tray and dome that had been cleaned in a light, temperature and humidity controlled environment. I planted ten different kinds of seeds, all dated this year, all from big-name companies. This is a dismal germination rate and the only variable was these pellets. I'll definitely not be buying from these guys again.
I gave these up to just plant in a post with soil medium. I have had much better luck with a regular pot.
