About Jill Edmondson
There's a thin line between me and my heroine Sasha Jackson, although I've never worked at a phone sex hotline, and Sasha isn't a language geek. I enjoy bumming around any country where they speak a Latin-based language. I love cheesy, head-banging rock concerts, ice cream and palm trees.
I'm a Cancerian. I live in Toronto.
My reading tastes are varied, but these days they lean towards nonfiction, a mix of history, current events, politics, economics and science. When it comes to fiction, I prefer books that make me laugh; Jasper Fforde and Christopher Moore are two favourites.
I own the two cutest dogs in the world. They are both Maltese, and neither one has any teeth (dental problems are common with this breed, I hear). I got Bella in October 2011. She is 12 years old, very neurotic, weighs 6 lbs, and is very sweet. I got her new boyfriend Chico from an animal shelter in January 2012. He weighs 5 lbs, has a heart condition, and believes that my sole purpose on Earth is to rub his belly!

She discovers surprising motives and even more surprising secrets, and just when she thinks she's solved the case, another dead body turns up.
Meanwhile, Sasha's private life is a shambles. Her brother is pissing her off, Sasha's love-life is on the rocks, and her BFF has her nose out of joint over Sasha's latest revelations. And then there's the driving instructor, the locksmith and the glazier. Let's just say it's a good thing that Sasha has a credit card.
Why can't everyone just chill out long enough for Sasha to get in a good jam session, or have a good night's sleep?

Blood and Groom (Sasha Jackson Mysteries Book 1)
Nov 9, 2013
$4.99
When not talking dirty at her part time phone sex job, or singing cheesy cover tunes in generic suburban bars, fledgling private investigator Sasha Jackson is spending her days trying to figure out how ‘till death do us part’ applies to her jilted client.
Christine Arvisais was dumped by her gold plated fiancé days before mailing the wedding invitations. Four months later, he was shot in a Toronto ravine during his Saturday morning jog. Christine says she was wrapped in seaweed and bathing in mud when Gordon Hanes went to the mahogany paneled VIP room in the sky.
Then another former fiancé falls victim to another femme fatale and it appears Cupid’s bow is no match for the Grim Reaper’s scythe.
As Sasha continues her investigation, she uncovers a pattern of guys who skipped ‘I do’ and now never will. It seems a coincidence, until Sasha learns the real meaning of Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
With her dad driving her crazy via long distance, and her brother steeped in confusion about his own romantic comedy of Eros, Sasha must figure out who’s whacking would-be grooms before it becomes a case of four funerals and a wedding.
- Reviews for Blood and Groom -
“The toughest fictional woman P.I. in Canada.” -Bill Selnes, Mysteries and More
"Sasha Jackson: she's tough, can drink with the best of 'em, and isn't afraid to bend the rules." (Karen Russell, HowMysterious.com)
"Fans of strong female characters and fans of detective novels will enjoy this story. This was a fun read, and I can’t wait to see what kind of trouble Toronto’s sexiest new detective can get in to in her second book." (PaulTheBookGuy.com)
“Edmondson writes a fast-moving book with a hip protagonist. I give Blood and Groom a rating of Hel-O since Jill Edmondson is a new-to-me author and Blood and Groom is a fast-paced, fun read.” (Helen Ginger, straightfromhel.com Blog)
“Sasha Jackson is one of the best literary characters I’ve discovered of late. She’s an edgy and unconventional ex-musician turned private investigator. Canadian author Jill Edmondson spins a marvelous yarn with a sense of humor. She shines a bright light on Toronto. Biting humor, pop references and colorful characters make Blood and Groom a fun read.” (Amy Steele, entertainmentrealm.com)
"Blood and Groom is a sprightly read - a promising start to a new series and a fresh writing career." (Joan Barfoot, The London Free Press)
"Blood and Groom's main character, newly licensed downtown Toronto P.I. (and former rock singer) Sasha Jackson, has enough sass and quirk to hold a reader's interest." (Quill & Quire )
"The style is fresh, well-paced and uses dialogue that feels real. Toronto is nicely portrayed as a place fit for dispatching grooms. Edmondson shows the storytelling skill to turn this into a series with room to grow." (The Hamilton Spectator)
“Blood and Groom is full of down-to-earth people and pithy portrayals of some weird characters. Conversations are snappy. It is a light, fun read and I’d be interested in seeing future stories.” (The Waterloo Region Record)
"It's a quick, entertaining read best enjoyed with double vodka tonics and morning after grilled cheeses." (shedoesthecity.com Blog )
"Parts are very funny -- especially the sex chat and Sasha's nerdy pal Victor, and her gambler dad... Bizarre! Not as bizarre as the ending, with romance and finance combined to deadly effect.

As open minded as she is, private investigator Sasha Jackson feels out of place when her latest case plunges her into the world of commercial sex. A classy madame has hired Sasha to find a missing Mexican hooker, which seems easy enough at first.
Sasha figures out why the hooker ran away but has no idea where she is running to. Besides, how fast can anyone run in stiletto heels? It isn’t until the next body turns up that Sasha realizes why the hooker must choose between fight and flight, and why the choice is so difficult.
Sasha tests her moral compass as she tries to understand the sex trade and what someone will do in a moment of desperation. She is even willing to look the other way, but then Sasha realizes her ass is incredibly hot and the killer is incredibly cold.
REVIEWS
"If you say 'female private eyes in crime fiction', loners like Kinsey Millhone or V. I. Warshawski come to mind. Sasha's a nice counterpoint. It's just easier to relate to Sasha" -HowMysterious
"Sasha Jackson is the true literary granddaughter of Sam Spade and Philip Marlowe" -Ellery Queen
"Blood and Groom was a delightful discovery, as it featured the tough-as-nails, but still self-aware and flawed Sasha Jackson as a private investigator uncovering heinous crimes. Dead Light District stays true to the character. Edmondson keeps the tone light with occasional jokes and sarcastic wit, and her series character is worth the attention for those who appreciate contemporary P.I. fiction" Mark Rose, Bookgasm
"A missing-person case that goes terribly wrong will have readers chuckling and cringing as they read Jill Edmondson’s latest mystery tale...an intriguing tale. And Edmondson develops it in style with unexpected twists and turns. Jill Edmondson is a writer to watch" -The Guelph Mercury
"There is still the wise cracking Sasha that was present in the first book, along with a cast of interesting characters. I am looking forward to the next book" -Sleuth of Baker Street
“Interesting moral ambiguities get discussed in Dead Light District, and Sasha continues to be an appealing character — growing as Edmondson keeps building her series” –Joan Barfoot, London Free Press
“The book offers an interesting twist on a mystery. While the book is well written, offers solid characters and an interesting plot, the strength of the book is based on philosophical questions and the research that went into telling this fascinating story. Edmondson shows extreme finesse while keeping the story still enjoyable to read and exciting. Five Stars out of Five” -Lynn Farris, National Examiner
“This sequel to the amusing Blood and Groom finds Toronto private investigator Sasha Jackson on the trail of a missing Mexican hooker. There’s a decent story here” -Margaret Cannon, The Globe and Mail
"Dead Light District was sure worth the wait. Jill writes great mystery novels. The book flows, but the key to a good plot is a bit of surprise. I didn't suspect the ending. Jill has a surprising way to keep me reading" -Rebecca Emrich, Living a Life of Writing
"Sasha Jackson, is once again solving a mystery with a combination of her intelligence, tenacity, and (amusing!) snarkiness. Dead Light District is a lively and exciting read. I recommend it for those who like a fast-paced mystery with an amusing tone. The story has plenty of humour, quirky characters, and a compelling mystery" -Bookish Magpie
"Fuel for enough action to make Dead Light District ideal for a summer evening.

It’s election time in Toronto, and this year’s mayoral race is hotly contested. However, private investigator Sasha Jackson is more focused on bondage than ballots. After a wild night at a fetish party, a man Sasha had briefly met is found murdered near Cherry Beach, the whip marks on his back punctuated by two bullet holes. It initially seems like naughty sex that went a bit too far, but Sasha soon discovers that politicos like to play rough too, and might be hiding more than just their handcuffs.
Meanwhile, Sasha has two other cases on the go. A couple of distraught parents have hired her to find their runaway daughter Macy. Sasha’s search for the girl leads her to some of Toronto’s shadier neighbourhoods where she learns more than she wants to about teenaged angst and Ecstasy.
On top of the spank me, shank me cases, Sasha’s restaurateur brother has referred her services to a fine dining colleague who is convinced that someone in his restaurant is cooking the books instead of cooking five-star meals. Sasha should have just asked ‘Where’s the beef?’ but instead she spends a rainy night looking for it.
When Sasha dries off, she encounters an artistic dominatrix with passion for the environment, a political wife who never met a camera she didn't love, and a furry white cat that will inadvertently help to expose everything about Sasha’s latest case.

"Author Jill Edmondson created a great character in Sasha Jackson. This makes me want to keep reading. Sasha keeps me in the pages. She’s honest, gutsy, liberal and independent. I can relate to her in so many ways." Amy Steele, Entertainment Realm
"Been to a fetish party lately? Even if you aren’t a habitué, you’ll like this stylish, smart novel set in Toronto’s downtown arts and culture scene.
This series, featuring aspiring musician-turned-private eye Sasha Jackson, has been optioned for television and it has all the hallmarks of success. There is a winsome PI, a sexy cop for a potential love interest and Hogtown as we would all love it to be: racy, witty and full of interesting, polymorphous perversity. The mystery is a nicely plotted whodunit, but the real charm here is the setting. Edmondson, a communications professor, knows her town intimately. Even better, she knows how readers want it to be." Margaret Cannon, The Globe and Mail
"In her 3rd mystery Sasha Jackson is in fine form. The book immediately grabbed my attention. I really enjoy Sasha’s conversations. In her directness and wit I was reminded of the Spenser books. Robert B. Parker created sharp interesting dialogue. Sasha remains a caustic observer of the world, an intriguing character, with a quirky life." -Bill Selnes, Mysteries and More
"Jill Edmondson’s third Sasha Jackson mystery, The Lies Have It, proves that this series has lasting power. In fact, this might be the best series you haven’t heard of… yet. Her mysteries are edgy and told with humor. Sasha sees Toronto from just about every angle, and it’s not all pretty. It’s nothing but fun to read and review a book like this one." -Karen Russell, How Mysterious
"The Lies Have It is another fun, fast-paced Sasha Jackson mystery featuring the sexy and sassy private investigator. Wicked, witty and absolutely hilarious." -Maureen Box, Bookish Magpie
"I like Sasha. She's tenacious. She gets a case or two or three and she keeps working until she solves them. We follow her into places and lives both troubled and fascinating. Edmondson makes Toronto come alive on the page.
