Blog postPhoto by Caley Vanular on UnsplashI know what you’re thinking …. How can a trip to the gym get anyone excited?
Several years ago, I was with you on this one. The thought of having to put on workout clothes, get in the car, drive to the gym, and find the motivation to use the machines and free weights while trying not to look weak and clumsy was paralyzing.
Most of the time I’d make up a lame excuse not to go. I didn’t want to deal with the hassle, not t2 days ago Read more -
Blog postPhoto by Dev Asangbam on UnsplasLast week, my husband and I were listening to a podcast about transformation. The host and his guest discussed many aspects of how this concept affects our lives emotionally, physically, and spiritually. There was a lot of ground to cover.
The podcast was longer than usual, running about an hour and a half. At the time, there seemed to be a lot of repetition in the dialogue, with the same questions being asked and answered, but in slightly different ways5 days ago Read more -

Blog postPhoto by Brooke Cagle on UnsplashIf we’re going to cry, let’s be sure we have a good reason. My youngest sister recently turned 60. As much as I tried to ignore it — the off-key singing, the lit-up cake, the smile on her slightly-wrinkled face — the wake-up call was heard loud and clear. What the hell had happened, and how did we end up in this decade?
Even more important, had I spent my time wisely so far? And what, exactly, had I accomplished that could be considered worthwhile — or1 week ago Read more -
Blog postOne of my most cherished memories of my dad took place in a small metal rowboat on a smooth, placid lake in the forests of Wisconsin.
Let me tell you a little about the man who had a hand in shaping my life.

Blog postPhoto by Remy_Loz on Unsplash One of my greatest fears is breathing down my neck.
Summer. In my opinion, the warm, sunny months are the cruelest season of the year.
It’s bad enough I have to endure hot flashes, bitchy moods, and nightly sweats - tossing and turning in bed like a hot dog on a spit instead of getting the restful sleep my mind and body so desperately crave.

Blog postThe door to change is always unlocked. Sometimes we turn the knob and peer into the future with curiosity and questions. Often, it swings open wide, inviting us to step through. And occasionally, life’s circumstances give us a needed kick from behind, sending us sailing over the threshold.
Why the differences in how we approach the future? Our willingness to acknowledge and accept the inevitable changes in our lives may be an indicator of how we view the world.

Blog postPhoto by Daniel Lincoln on UnsplashMy last pair of sunglasses broke. A good friend I hadn’t seen in a while met me for lunch. I’d just walked in the restaurant door and hadn’t removed my sunglasses. Seeing my friend in the lobby, I reached out. Where do you start with a book like this?
Good question …For those of you brave enough to admit it’s time for a change, let’s start with congratulations. You’ve realized you want a better life—one that fills you with purpose, direction, and promise. Perhaps you’ve known for a while that something is missing. And instead of pursuing life’s opportunities, you’ve been standing on the sidelines watching the days, months, and years go by without fully participating in the things that make you happy and fulfilled—the things that make life worth living.
So back to that original question: Where do you start?
You’ll simply begin where you are. I intentionally created this guide to be self-exploratory. Your age doesn’t matter, neither does your gender or current station in life.
And that’s where this journal comes in. Whether your goal is to develop a positive mindset, eliminate toxic relationships, or increase spiritual awareness, this journal will help you recognize and pursue your full potential. And in the process, you’ll acquire the skills you need to become confident, positive, and sure of yourself.
Life in Small Doses. has eight chapters containing thirty-five exercises. There’s no specific structure or blueprint, and you can explore the exercises in any order you like. Working through them, at your own speed, can be one of the most important steps you can take in achieving the success, happiness, and life you deserve.
Life in Small Doses, on its own, can be used to help clarify your thoughts and offer a few guidelines in making positive changes in your life. In addition, this journal was intentionally designed as a reference and companion guide to the stories in Real Life: We breathe, We sleep, We eat … And in-between, We Live, available from Amazon in eBook and paperback.
Together, these two books, Life in Small Doses and Real Life, will provide you with the greatest impact in motivating and supporting your efforts toward personal growth and self-improvement.
My hope is that this guide will become a vital component of your transition to a better, more rewarding life.

Real Life - We breathe, We sleep, We eat - And in-between … We Live! Every day is a new opportunity to live a real life – a fresh beginning waiting to be explored. It’s another chance to find happiness, contentment, and purpose in our lives. But as we face the typical challenges and struggles of getting through the day, our focus often becomes blurred from an overwhelming schedule and the constant requirement to respond to the needs of others.
The result? Instead of balance, peace, and harmony, we find ourselves lost in mind-numbing routine, or caught up in a chaotic whirlwind of resolving one minor crisis after another—leaving us frustrated and discouraged. "Real Life" opens the door of possibility, and the opportunity to break through the layers of distraction that prevent us from recognizing our true spirit— that force which compels us to become better, stronger, and more optimistic about living our lives to our true potential.
Living a real life means becoming more curious, aware, and creative—more alive. It means taking control of our lives, and making choices that are personally congruent and authentic to our true self. And finally, it means letting go of past mistakes without regret, and moving forward on our life’s journey with optimism, positivity, and joy.
In this collection of thirty-five uplifting and entertaining stories, you'll find truth, humor, and inspiration, and perhaps a few bits of wisdom to help guide you to a more fulfilling and meaningful life. The book is divided into eight chapters and can be read in any order. Whether you need a boost in confidence, a few moments of soul searching, or a motivating message, turn to a story in Real Life …

If you’ve ever wondered whether you have what it takes to be a writer, you’ve come to the right place. In fact, you’re in good company, joining the ranks of those who have asked themselves the same question and persevered, regardless of the answer.
We write because it’s something we must do. It’s that unexplainable desire to express our personal truth that moves the pen across the paper and our fingers over the keyboard.
Still, we occasionally hold our thoughts and ideas in check—often questioning our motives and skill. Doubt and fear rise to the surface, and we wonder if we’re good enough, bold enough, or strong enough to take this writing thing to the next level—much less to the pinnacle of success.
In this collection of essays, you’ll read about my personal pursuit to become a writer, and how my naive interest and a few hours of extra time spent considering the possibilities simply wasn’t enough—until I ultimately found the ability and fortitude to become successful.
Yes, there’s often a lot of soul searching involved. Sometimes there are difficult questions to be answered, and a need to commit to the process. Coming to terms with what it really takes to turn the dream of writing into a reality starts with a practical plan to get in the game - and stay there.
If you’re looking for information on the principles of grammar, the nuances of punctuation, or how to handle a dangling participle, you won’t find it here. What you will discover are the realities of writing for a living – including the often unavoidable anxiety and uncertainty that accompanies the decision to send your work into the world, hoping readers find something useful, or inspiring, or entertaining.
So if you’re willing to face the challenges—to pour your heart and soul onto the page for anyone who cares to take a look—then this book is for you.
I hope you’ll join me in the rewarding journey to becoming a professional writer—no matter what it takes.

Discover Your Personal Truth: Ditch the Excuses and Start Living a Real Life (The Real Life Series)

What is it about facing the truth that scares us?
From our earliest memories, we’re taught to be honest and forthcoming in our relationships with others. We’re admonished for telling lies and cautioned against concealing knowledge or information that could impact another’s perceptions or decisions in a negative way. We’re told to “just be ourselves,” because without fully revealing our thoughts, no one would know who we truly are.
But in spite of those early admonitions, few of us practice full disclosure. We hold back, often presenting a public persona that is very different from our genuine selves. And it begs the question ... How did our inclination to withhold the truth – to use deception if necessary – evolve into common behavior in the way we communicate with others?
For many of us, we learned by example – from watching, observing, and listening to conversations of others. And all too often, deciphering the truth became a challenge – one requiring more skill or knowledge than we had at our disposal. As a result, many of us hide our authentic selves under lock and key – cautiously restricting others from learning our real feelings, thoughts, and desires.
Think of it as a personal cloaking device. And while we often use this strategy to protect ourselves from embarrassment, shame, or to preserve our dignity, it can often prevent us from reaching our full potential - especially when we have the opportunity to explore life’s possibilities and enjoy the benefits of achieving our personal best.
In this second book in the Real Life Series, you’ll discover the reasons behind your self-doubt and lack of confidence. You’ll read real life stories with examples and suggestions of how to overcome fear and negativity and, hopefully, you’ll find a few answers to help guide you in the search for your personal truth.
The signs of positivity and optimism are all around us – if we’re ready to recognize them. Whether in the form of an unexpected opportunity, a potential new relationship, or strengthening the bond with someone you already know, embracing the power of being your authentic self will result in a more genuine and rewarding journey to living a fulfilling life.
