Something tells me she isn’t completely oblivious to James’s darker side. Noting that sometimes she’s fearful of his change in behavior, Theresa tries only to see the best in him.
Her determination is evident in her interactions with the police. Even as the world and her image is crashing around her and nobody offers to help, Theresa resolves to find James.
It becomes evident then that her love for him is deeper than the life she imagined they would have; she refuses to be intimidated by his family and pushes ahead even when she has no idea what’s going on.
After being deceived by his family, Theresa is left without enough time to react. James disappears once again. It’s a quick read with eloquent descriptions that leaves the reader wanting more. Theresa has a lot of potential as a character, so it will be great to see more of her.
Although I first thought that Theresa was so self-absorbed that she couldn’t really live anyone other than herself, but she developed as a character throughout the book. By the end of the story, I was invested in the character and wished the second book was already published so I could finish the story.
Congratulations Azaaa Davis, you hooked me so I want to read more of your books!

It’s nothing new for a person to be driven to have the perfect marriage – a perfect family – a perfect life. Some individuals strive to marry someone of wealth or have a specific job.
Theresa was determined to prove to everyone from her past that she made something of herself. She strived to have A LOT of social media followers, gain sponsorships, receive freebies, and have people covet her life. In the world of social media and influencers, more people are becoming household names and living off commissions from ads.
To her Insta followers, Theresa appears to be living the dream. In reality, she’s caught in a nightmare that seems only to be getting worse.
For the first three-fourths of "Jilted," I wondered who was the true big bad wolf. Theresa had sparks between two of them (wolves). I wanted that played out more, maybe a love triangle. An epic (highly-detailed) fight scene between the two men (beasts) would’ve also been on my wish list. Without divulging any spoilers, I will say the ending was surprising, and maybe my wishes will come to pass in the sequel, "Scorned."
I can’t wait to find out!!

First, I read this book in a day. It’s short but engaging and that made it very easy to read.
I found this story cute. That’s the best way to describe it. Not in a bad way as some people would take that word, but in a sincere way! The plot of this first person narrative was super cute. It was the story of a woman whose life is torn apart by supernatural forces, but not in a stiff, super serious Fantasy way, but in an influencer losing their clout kind of way and how that would make you laugh. Davis does an excellent job with the plot because really, we should hate Theresa. She’s shallow, materialistic and uncaring, but this plot is so crazy, fun and smart that we do find ourselves rooting for her.
All the characters were well done. I didn’t like or dislike anyone more than anyone else, but I felt the characters were fleshed out well anyway. Davis really did a lot with Theresa, the main character and narrator but it was so fun and the narration was smart. When Theresa thought “I knew not to push my luck by wasting my question on basics like, ‘Where are you taking me?'” I knew the author was a genius! These characters are GROUNDED in reality when they say things like that. Additionally, the dialogue was A++++. Davis did an awesome job making the characters sound realistic.
The world of the story is our own, which I liked. I don’t always want to be in a fantasy world when I’m reading fantasy. Davis does an excellent job describing what needs to be described and leaving other things to the imagination. The theme of growth and willingness for change is very deeply imbedded in the story. Additionally, self-reflection is noted in our main characters arc too. Theresa REALLY has to grow and Davis makes it easy for us to see how she develops.
This book is short and sweet! Davis uses no complex language, which is important because our narrator is a 21 year old social media influencer who also works as an administrative assistant. She has no where near the vocabulary of our author, and Davis keeps everything to Theresa’s level.
I have no complaints about this book. This part One of the series ends on a perfect note! It was well done, fun and thrilling! Highly recommended!
