Jim Fobel, a protege of James Beard and frequent contributor to Food & Wine and other magazines, recreates for this book the best of many hundreds of baking recipes perfected by his grandmother, his mother and his aunts. The recipes have been adjusted for contemporary tastes - cutting down the amount of sugar called for, without sacrificing their delectable goodness. And every recipe has clear, easy to follow instructions that can be handled by bakers of every level of expertise.

This book is filled with familiar-sounding recipes to try, but they rise high above my old stand-by's. Many of Jim Fobel's recipes are ethnic, and would most likely be a boon to people who for one reason or another never had recipes for the foods their mothers or grandmothers cooked and baked.
A lovely book that I highly recommend. (I actually had found this book originally at a junque store, but was so fascinated by his way of doing things that I bought another one just like it for a favorite brother-in-law!). Try it...I think you will like it!
This book is a replacement for my previous copy that sadly met it's demise. Opening the package felt like I was welcoming home an old friend.
