Two friends go on a sailing vacation that turns into an animal conservation project that could leave the sailing crew in trouble with the law or, worst, to sink with the ship.
Jimi and Isaac problem solve and work hard to learn and use the knowledge they already have to maintain level heads when the going gets tough.
Jimi and Isaac 2a: Keystone Species is a nice choice for adventure-seeking middle graders that like knowing how things work. It's part of a series that offers more adventures with the same likable friends.

This time they’re on the ocean, with an ornery uncle who isn’t quite what they expected. The boys have lots of fun learning all about Uncle Tim’s boat in a short time, but they have no idea how soon that knowledge will become necessary for their very survival. When even their new skills aren’t quite enough, the curious young scientists have to research and problem-solve their way to saving the day.
As always, the author does a wonderful job of showing us how the world looks through the eyes of middle school boys. Jimi’s daydreams and random thoughts add another dimension of fun to the tale.
The story is so engaging that the reader won’t notice that they’re learning about ecosystems, ocean life, and even how boats work. A great book for all ages.
