Editorial Reviews

Review

"The sexual tension helped make the storyline the winner it is... This fast-moving book was hard, almost impossible, to put down."  --The Romance Studio

"I absolutely love every one of the books in this set and recommend all three. However the love scenes in this one are my favorite just because of the visualization that I got from reading them."  --Maree, Romance Junkies

"Cat Johnson did not disappoint...sizzling hot and highly intense" --Nikita, Veiled Secrets

From the Author

Task Force Zeta featured in the Red, Hot & Blue series was based on the real life Task Force 145, formed by the Pentagon in 2003 from men from Delta Force, Rangers, SEALs and British SAS. They were responsible for taking out Al-Zarqawi in 2006. TREY was based on this special task force, their practices, and philosophies.
From an ABC news article in 2006: "Task Force 145 uses a process that they call the unblinking eye, which is essentially a very tight linkage between intelligence and operations, meaning that as soon as they have intelligence they want to act on it, rather than sit and dwell on it for days at a time," said Sean Naylor, who reported a piece on TF 145 for the Army Times."

This is the the third novella of the Red, Hot & Blue group. What's not to love--hunky/hot black op type military dudes finding, ahem, love. And love it is (apparently). Oh, and be warned, in a good way, it is back to being HOT in this story. Not COMPLETELY sizzlin' or we would have been treated to the full shower scene, but some not-to-be-confused-for-anything-else ADULT action. Yup, that was there. Hmm-mm. Check. Present. Okay, where is my fan?

Jimmy's story starts 6 months prior to the events of Trey, but finishes off after picking up at the end of Jake's story. A consistent issue I have had with all of the series is how some things are compressed (presumably to fit the novella format) that just don't actually squish well. Here, love is declared quickly, recovery from terrorist torture occurs relatively fast (and off screen, so maybe that's why it seems so fast) and family is confronted. I also went a little nuts about the how the psych was specifically chosen by the commander to do his evaluation of Jimmy. Really? Commanders don't usually get to do that, even if it is 'just the local VA hospital', not to mention that whole interaction was not very realistic--an off the record ending to a psych evaluation before sending a black ops type back to full duty --yikes! As a series, suspension of belief is required of the reader over some of these details.

As novellas, these are light on details and are great for a fun, easy read. Not too dark or serious, though the premise is such that a full length novel, while delving into the angst would be welcome. In my opinion a truly awesome novella (5 stars) tells you the full story of what is being laid out (so to speak) and at the end you feel the story is complete.

Very simple storyline to this very well-done novella. As with most short stories, the HEA is a little too easy and not very believable, but the characters were great and the plot was fun and kept moving along. I enjoyed this read and will be looking for more stuff by this author.

3-3.5 stars

This was a cute and sexy story. I liked Jimmy and Lia and their story was enjoyable.

Lia is the daughter of a Governor and a nice woman. She unfortunately has gotten caught up in her father's political career, especially since her mother has had health issues that keeps her out of the lime light. Another downfall of this is that her father is trying to push her in to marriage with the son of a Senator because it would make a good political connection but Lia isn't willing to go that far.

Jimmy is a marine and works for a team that does a lot of undercover work. He and his brothers grew up on a farm but Jimmy and his brother, Jack, joined the Marines and are now on the same team. Jimmy has never had any problems getting women but has never found one to settle down with.

Jimmy and his team are tasked to go undercover as waiters at a black tie affair due to a possible security risk. Lia and Jimmy catch each other's eyes and they exchange glances multiple times. Lia slips Jimmy her number and he calls her as soon as the event is over. They meet at her hotel and have a hot night but they don't get much time together. Lia still thinks that Jimmy is a waiter when he leaves the next morning but hopes he'll call regardless. Jimmy had planned to call Lia as he found an unexpected connection with her. Unfortunately, Jimmy's team gets sent to catch a terrorist and Jimmy is sent undercover almost immediately.

After being gone about 6 months, Jimmy gets caught up in a bad situation and gets injured and sent home to recover. Jimmy has been thinking about Lia during the whole time he's been gone and thinking of her helped him get through some tough spots. He wants to call Lia when he gets back but it's been so long he doesn't feel he can.

I have a spot in my heart for all military men. I enjoyed this book. Jimmy & Lia were funny. The commander & his teammates were a hoot. I would like to enjoy the rest of the series either or kindle or book but they are still a little pricey since I buy the entire series at once. Good work Cat Johnson.

Well, these guys are great heroes. A little rough around the edges, a little crude, but WOW the sex is hot. A marine on special assignment, he is the wait staff at a big political bash. She comes in on the arm of the Governor. A beautiful redhead he is instantly attracted but who is she to the old man? She gives him her name and number and he calls the same night. He has no idea who she is and she thinks he is a waiter but the sex is off the charts.

The next morning he is sent on an undercover mission with no way to contact anyone at home. Six months later they meet again. The sparks are still just as hot. If he looks anything like the guy on the cover of this book, I think he could raise the dead!!! A good story, great hero, great sex, HEA. Very entertaining and I recommend it.

Book 3 in "Red Hot & Blue" series. Preceded by Jack. There is a free short story, "Under the Covers" that technically follows "Jimmy". The next book (4 or 5 depending on how you count them) available on Amazon is Jared.

Plot:
Neither Jimmy nor Lia have ever forgotten the one night stand 6 months ago. When they unexpectedly meet at the horse ranch, sparks fly. Can they give a relationship a chance?

Comments:
- A novella (1564 kindle locations).
- Jimmy is Jack's brother and the Special Forces officer they saved in "Trey". Other members of the Task Force re-appear in this book, as well as some of the horse ranch characters.
- "Trey" was set in a military scenario, "Jack" had more of a cowboy flavour. "Jimmy" reads as a contemporary romance.
- "Jimmy" picks up a few days after "Jack", while Jack remains on furlough and Jimmy is healing. It does have a prologue of events just before Jimmy went undercover.
- Again, this book would standalone. That said, with characters from the previous book re-appearing without much explanation of their role in the task force, reading the other books in order would be of help in keeping the names straight, as well as some of Jimmy's backstory. But it isn't necessary and I think you'd still enjoy the book.
- Sex is m/f, explicit and lusty.
- Product says it has been previously published and has been revised for this edition. The original story is from Trilogy No. 103: Red Hot & Blue.
