4.0 out of 5 stars The microscope is worth $20. Pay someone $50 to take the stand off your hands!
By costmo on October 12, 2017
Bottom line:
This is the same exact camera sold by dozens of sellers on Amazon. I did a fair amount of research on quite a few of them (way more than the $20 purchase was worth), and I personally felt better about this seller than others because of the fact that they at least made their own app for the camera. The other sellers appear to be just warehouses and don't really have an interest in their products. If you have a 3D printer (so you can make your own stand) or can find this camera with a more stable/sturdy stand (one that was designed and engineered intentionally and specifically for this purpose), it's a great purchase. If not, pay more money for a unit with a better stand, because that seemingly unimportant detail makes or breaks this product.

Why 4 stars:
The microscope itself is more than I would would expect for $20. The image is clear, it can take pictures of a resolution that is appropriate for a camera in this price range (very low resolution compared to digital cameras, but it's $20!), and it is simple to operate. There really isn't much to it or much that can go wrong. I don't use Windows, so I can't comment on the "SNAP" or "ZOOM" button functionality, which the manufacturer makes clear is only available in Windows, but I have had this microscope taking pictures and video from macOS, Linux and Android. It works as advertised on all of those platforms.

However, the stand makes it unusable as-is. The stand is too light, too flimsy, and cannot properly hold the camera in place while doing things like adjusting the focus. It's just a bad design. And when you need to focus on something that is fractions of a millimeter in size, having a stand that is not stable makes a camera entirely useless.

I made my unit usable by 3D printing a stand and a better focusing mechanism, which were available at Thingiverse.

If I did not have a 3D printer, I would either be very frustrated by this unit or I would be returning it to get something with a better stand (at a higher price, I'm sure). Since I do, I was able to make it work perfectly for my needs, and I'm happy about the purchase.

Added note: Some of the negative reviews reveal a common confusion about this device. The apparent "zoom" knob is really a "focus" knob and the the magnification level is a product of the camera's distance from the subject. On a standard digital camera, "zoom" causes the lens to move while the device remains stationary. That is not the case with this "zoom" feature - you "zoom" by moving the camera closer to the subject and then use the knob that's labeled "40X - 1000X" to focus. It's confusing that the knob is labeled "40X - 1000X" because that's the focus control!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun microscope for a low price
By zlajoie on October 28, 2017
I wasn't expecting much since it was just going to be cheap microscope for my daughter. We first started viewing dead bugs we found around the house and then we were able to see a live baby aphid on a plant stamen. The stem was already very small, so when we saw something even smaller wiggling around, we were very impressed with the quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best $20 you’ll spend!
By Mary Baker Wilson on April 28, 2018
Really incredible little microscope for how much it is! I was between this digital microscope and a pocket microscope. My husband surprised my daughter and I and went ahead and ordered this one. I’m so glad! I love that we can all see what is under the microscope at one time. It’s simple to use. Just open the program it works with with your computer and plug it in!! Works wonderfully! We’re all out collecting things to bring back and take a closer look at. Here are some of the images we got.. a moth, spider, eyeball, and hair!

4.0 out of 5 stars Works best with clear cover removed
By Cheryl M on December 27, 2017
For the price it works fine. The picture is way better when you remove the plastic cover, As I figured out on my own. Focusing is a bit tricky. Once focused on item ( coins for me ) I just leave it alone, slide coins in and out from under the magnifier. Can only see a quarter of the coin at a time. Need to try more ways of getting the magnifier up on a box, higher up and try focusing that way to hopefully be able to see the whole coin at once.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great camera, scrap the stand and make or buy your own
By NL AEIOU on February 21, 2019
The camera is great, but the stand is terrible. Find some scrap pieces and build your own if you can. They also sell a stand for $20 if you can't. I think i did a pretty good job on the stand, i wish i could say the same for my first soldering job. :) No worries, work in progress. Once again, great microscope for $20, dont forget to take the plastic cap off the tip, and that thing on the side is focus, not zoom. You need an adjustable stand and bring the camera closer for zoom.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is fascinating
By Tom Pearson on December 23, 2017
Ok to start with read the directions. I would have saved some time. Comes with a CD with drivers and programs for pc and phone, I don't know if it works with Apple or Mac stuff, I don't have either. I have a few tips for anyone who purchases this. First realize it has an orientation, so rotate it so top is the top of what you are viewing. That will make moving it less frustrating. You will probably find moving the object easier than moving the microscope itself. It also has a built in light source that is adjustable by a thumbwheel in the cord. The tricky part is the zoom, as you zoom in you have to adjust the distance from the object being viewed and then focus with the same ring on the microscope. That was confusing at first but once you understand that concept it is quite easy. All in all this is a great product. I will use it in my job "electronics". But I'm sure it would amuse children for hours. The pictures show the difference in distance from object vs intensity of magnification.

5.0 out of 5 stars I am stunned by the quality of this microscope
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 12, 2019
I enjoy inspecting things and taking close up photographs as it's interesting looking at the micro world that we cannot see by our eye. I thought I'd give this microscope a try as it had some pretty good reviews.
I am stunned at the quality of this digital microscope, especially for the price.
I was never expecting it to be so good! I would guess the camera even goes to 1250x unlike the 1000x that is advertised. If you are sceptical and not sure whether or not to buy this, I would say GO FOR IT, you won't regret it. A must have tool for necessary occasions.

I have attached lots of photographs that I have taken with the camera. I hope you enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great piece of kit for less than £15
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 19, 2019
For the price, a really excellent piece of kit.

It effectively has two optical magnifications which are supplemented by a less useful digital zoom. The thumb wheel adjusts both focus AND, if you keep rotating it, moves between the two magnification levels. According to my calibrations these are 35X and 160X (at 640 x 480 on screen). Note these are two distinct magnifications - there is not a continuous 'zoom' function between the magnifications. By switching to a higher screen resolution (the video capture pin in the software goes all the way up to 6324 x 4742!) the apparent magnification increases to around 460X, but effectively is the 640 x 480 image blown up. So I have tended to use the microscope at what looks to me to be the native sensor resolution of 640x480 to give the highest quality images and videos.

The included Amcap software works very well, though once you have installed the drivers, you can use other apps - like Window Movie Maker - to capture footage. The device is just another webcam as far as the PC is concerned.

It also comes with an OTG adaptor to connect to your mobile phone which makes the device really useful for field work. Again you can use any app (I use Android 'Endoscope') to interface. On my phone, this doesn't work so well - any movement seems to disconnect the device.

There is a knob about 1/3rd of the way down the USB cable to adjust the brightness of the 8 LED built in light - from off to extremely bright. The lighting is more than adequate for any situation. If using microscope slides you might need to tilt them a little to stop the lights reflecting in the glass (or use ambient light).

If you are buying this microscope for the stated 1000x magnification and HD images, you might be disappointed, but if you want a really nice piece of kit able to comfortably magnify up to 160X with perfectly reasonable 640x480 images and don't want to spend more than £15 then you will be delighted.

Images are: 1mm scale on a ruler, shaved facial hair, shed spider skins (low and high magnification), mosquito larvae (low and high magnification), and video of mosquito larvae swimming in pond water (low magnification).

5.0 out of 5 stars quite astonishing value for money
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 22, 2019
I needed photographs of microscopic sections of plant stems, leaves and roots to illustrate a book, and could buy them from www for up to £70 each. Instead, £14 for the Jiusion Digital micriscope did the whole job perfectly well -- see example below, which was my very first attempt. The only recommendation I would make is that the instructions be written by a beginner like me and not a professional engineer. Having said that, Jiusion Lui replied to my queries instantly, courteously and effectively. Now I have an excellent instrument of quite astonishing value for money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent microscope for the price.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 21, 2019
I can't fault this microscope at all. I downloaded the software as suggested in the item photos using the q codes. Only 2 out of the 3 would install on my android phone. However the two apps that did install gave good results.
There are two buttons on the side, zoom and snap, which don't seem to do anything. Maybe these are a function for windows. The led lighting is controlled by a thumbwheel control on the connecting cable, allowing variable brightness and give good results.
I would recommend getting the aluminium stand (about the same cost as the scope). This gives better control in focusing on objects. See photos for stand and ring/human hair examples.
I bought this to allow soldering of tiny smd components, so while not tested it for this, I think it will be suitable.
I got the impression that the scope was small and would be quite fiddly, but actually it is quite a decent size.
Would buy again.
