The new Blu-ray set includes:
- Episodes 1-26 of the anime in 1080p HD video
- The previous dub, but all new subtitles for the Japanese audio that are 100% accurate (aside from copyright name changes)
- A huge art book that was until now, only available through the Japanese Blu-ray releases! It's entirely translated and includes storyboard art with director commentary for each episode
- 9 art cards, each one featuring the artwork from the original Japanese Blu-ray covers
- An exclusive chipboard case modeled after the JoJonium manga releases
If you're new to the series, JoJo features intense and creative action, incredible humor, memorable characters and a moving story that has been praised for decades. This Set covers the first two Parts (Phantom Blood & Battle Tendency) in the JoJo saga. Phantom Blood sets the stage for the series, taking place in 1890's England. Jonathan Joestar, having lived a tragic life ever since his adoptive brother Dio Brando comes into the family, must fight to protect the ones he loves from evil. A mysterious stone mask has the power to transform any who wear it into a creature of the night and it just so happens that Dio comes across one of these masks himself. Battle Tendency takes place several decades later in the late 1930's just as WWII is getting underway. Jonathan's descendant, Joseph Joestar arrives in the good ol' U.S.A. to investigate the disappearance of a loved one. What he encounters sets him off of a globe-trotting adventure to protect humanity itself against the Pillar Men -- three ancient, all-powerful beings responsible for creating the stone masks!
Everything Viz could have done, they did and more with this release. I'm going to support this completely and hope that within the near future, we get a Set 2 containing Stardust Crusaders! Definitely a 5/5 for me!
I'm finally glad to be able to watch JoJo's Bizarre Adventure in full 1080p! My first viewing of this season was around 480-720p so this is immediately better. This set contains (no shocker):
-All 26 episodes of season 1 (Parts 1 and 2)
-English and Japanese V/A with English subtitles
-Clean opening animations
-On-disc art gallery
Along with the actual show there are, as described, some amazing extras:
-Key animation booklet
-Dual-sided character cards.
Additionally, there is also a voucher for a $5 discount on a subscription to Shonen Jump magazine. This more than makes up for the abysmal DVD release prior to this wonderful blu-ray set.
If you claim to be a JoJo fan and haven't picked this up yet, you're more heartless than Dio.
Top international reviews
This boxed set is gorgeous, in every sense and meaning of the word. The whole box is small and compact, making it easy to display alongside other Jojo merch (which I plan on doing). The outer box art is bright and vibrant, and the interior is a shiny reflective dark purple, with an alternating diamond pattern. The blu-rays themselves are decorated with vibrant character art, of similar style to the way the characters are depicted in the credits of Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency.
Owners of the original Warner Brothers DVD set don't despair - the menus have been vastly improved in quality for the BLU-ray release. This time around they are animated with vibrant colors, animated text and cycling, sharp purple line art of the characters. The menus are fast-loading drop-down bars this time around, cutting down the amount of time you'll spend juggling around in slow-loading screens. Overall it is very slick, clean and a welcome change from the garbage that WB brought with the original DVD release. Also don't worry - the subtitles for the Japanese audio are not dub-titles this time, they're a completely separate translation. The English dub also comes with a subtitles option as well, which is excellent for hard-of-hearing individuals who still want to enjoy the dub.
The included key animation art book is also excellent - it includes gorgeous frame art from crucial points in each episode, as well as notes from the director. The front and back covers feature vibrant pink line art of the stone mask (front) and what I believe is a skeletal Bruford (back). The boxed set also comes with a set of double-sided art prints of the major protagonists and antagonists of both Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency, which are all of excellent quality.
As a whole this set is an amazing upgrade from what we originally had with the paired part 1 & 2 DVD release, and overall is priced excellently for what you get alongside the blu-rays themselves. To say I'm satisfied with this is a massive understatement!
El contenido adicional es increíble, las cartas y el libro de animación valen la pena
