So I have this peach tree that for years has been just barely getting by. This summer I bought these and put 3 in the ground. Almost immediately the tree started growing faster than it ever has. Also, the lawn near the stakes started growing up thick and green and fast. And I fertilize my lawn, but whatever I use on the lawn doesn't work like this stuff.

Don't let the brand name, "Jobe's Organics" food you: these are NOT for organic food production; they even include a label on the side stating such (and not for use in California, for some reason - perhaps it has something to do with the "for heavy metal content, see our website.")

At any rate, these things work OK - I don't notice a difference between these and the more blatant chemical fertilizers, but these guys don't even get an "average" 3-star rating because of the marketing and deception: if you're growing organic trees/shrubs, using these will immediately render your fruit production as "conventional."

The reason they're part of the "Jobe's Organics" brand is because they're "organic based," which means that some of the ingredients are organic. Bleh.

I won't be buying these again.

My trees & shrubs have never looked better! Our soil is made up of a lot of clay so it was hard to hammer the spikes into the ground without them breaking. So we had to hammer a metal rod in the ground to make a hole before we put the spike in. I had also read on another review that dogs will dig these up & eat them. This is very true (our dog did right after we put the first one in), so we put bricks over where we put the spikes for the first few days. Despite the downfalls, these are worth it! They definitely work!

This product itself is great. Late fall, I used a box on three young trees; a willow, an elm, and a magnolia. The magnolia grew very well over the winter and the following spring the willow and elm exploded in tons of lush green leaves . So, it works, but these tree spikes are not without their drawbacks. As mentioned in other reviews, they are difficult to get into clay soil. We ended up breaking a few of them and smashing the plastic caps to bits. Once we got a technique down it did get easier. The biggest drawback though, is the cost. The directions suggest using twice a year, spring and fall. I guess this is fine if you've just got a few trees, but larger trees might use almost an entire box to themselves, and if you've got more then a few of them, feeding twice a year could get pretty pricy really fast. I will be buying these again, but I think I'll be saving them for ailing trees or shade trees I really need to fill out. The price of these isn't really too far out of line with the competition though, but I'd still suggest these only for small scale or supplemental use only.

Not yet sure how effective this fertilizer but it helps to make hole in the ground with metal rod before hammering these in. I have clay compacted soil and tried to hammer one in after two days of continuous rains but no luck. Used metal rod to make initial hole, push it around a little then hammer spike in worked much better. But then again - I could have just poured regular slow release fertilizer into it with the same effect.

Wow I just had to review this stuff after seeing my trees grow more this year than they have in the past 2.

I bought these almost 3 months ago and the grass around them is still a nice dark green and grows much faster than the rest of the yard.

I plan to use these every year!

I recommend removing the plastic cap as soon as it reaches the grass and just smashing the rest in with the hammer or you'll have a hard time getting the cap out of the ground.

Last year I took over for my mother, in regards to the yard work at her house. Its just too much work for her as she still works like 65 hours a week and she just doesn't have the energy or time to do lawn work. Anyways, she had a Maple tree planted in her backyard 2 years back and she expressed some concern with the tree's health as it hadn't grown very much and it had some branches that appeared to be wilting. when I learned that she hadn't fertilized the tree since it was first planted, I immediately ordered a box of tree spikes from Jobe. I have used them in the past and have seen first hand just what a difference they can make. I put down 8 spikes in a circle around the tree. The general guideline is to go in a circle and to do so just under the outer edge of tree's foliage. While it is a bit easier to make the holes before pounding the spikes in, its not required as I have done it both ways. Anyways, fast forward 12 months and the difference was nothing short of astounding. Not only did the wilting disappear entirely, it also exploded growth wise. The tree grew more in the last 12 months than it did the previous 2 years combined. In fact, that is a massive understatement. Again, I have used Jobe's tree spikes many times in the past and even I was surprised by the amount of growth. My mother actually called me in mid July simple to express how blown away she was at the size difference in her Maple.

Bottom line - Jobe's Food Spikes are easy to install and the results speak for themselves. If you have any trees or shrubs than need fertilizing then I highly recommend you give them a try. Odds are you will come back for more. I know I have.

5 Stars.
