The spikes last for 8 weeks at a time, and provides a nice, steady slow release fertilizer. This makes for very convenient gardening.
For tomatoes I use them at half the recommended rate, and supplement with potassium and magnesium rich fertilizers (epsom salt, greensand, wood ash, miracle-gro for tomatoes).
For hot peppers I use them at 1/3 the recommended rate and a small amount of epsom salt (these plants don't need much fertilizer, but are somewhat magnesium hungry).
My crops on both kinds of plants are great, and I'm quite happy with these. I only wish they had a low-nitrogen spike with more potassium in it for tomatoes (ie: 2-6-7, instead of 2-7-4)
Previously I could find these locally, but this year I'm having a hard time finding them, so I ordered them from Amazon.
I continue to use these with great results, both in raised beds and potted planters. I also ordered the general purpose (4-4-4) version and am trying it out on leaf-crop herbs (basil, oregano, etc), and leafy houseplants (spider plant, philodendron, etc).
I also notice they have a "Container and Annuals" version which is 3-5-6.. I might try that on tomatoes sometime for the higher potassium, but for now I'm using what I've been happy with.
If the new seeds I planted take off and grow faster than the last round, I will change my review to be more positive. Till then, I'm wondering if maybe I got a bad batch or something as this is the only change made to my garden. Extremely frustrating.
