I bought the Jobu Jr. 3 gimbal and attaching plates and carbon fiber telescoping monopod two years ago, and have taken many thousands of photos using a very heavy Nikon camera and lens. Almost all the photos were of sports games with lots of movement following the action back and forth across the fields. The Jobu products are well-designed and well-made, lightweight and easy to use. And durable. This afternoon I lost one of the tightener screws carrying the camera several miles on a walk (my fault). I called Jobu and they offered to ship a replacement screw free. So they have great service, too, which prompted me to congratulate them with this review.

Jobu Design BWG-J3K Junior 3 Gimbal Kit with Swing-arm HM-J2
The range of gimbal head quality and price is astounding.

Wimberley has an established/respected product but I was looking for something a bit cheaper and lighter. This Jobu head works. It supports my Canon 300mm f/2.8 with negligible gimbal flexure. With long lenses tripod mechanical resonances are a problem but wimpy gimbal heads are absolutely a disaster (see my review of the Desmond product). The result of poorly designed gimbal heads is noticeable lens angular oscillations.

Two small issues with this gimbal are:
(1) The short tilt arm leaves the center of my lens about 1 cm above the tilt bearing. This causes instability with no tilt friction set.
(2) A tilt friction washer which has significant stiction problems. Tilt starts hard then breaks loose.

I still like this product. Its good rigidity and low weight overcome these issues. My rigidity evaluation was based on observed photo quality and measured lens movement tracked with 2-axis accelerometers.

I was looking for a gimbal head for wildlife photography with a moderately-long zoom lens. Jobu Jr3 fits the bill perfectly. It's relatively small, light yet sturdy. This head seems very strong and well-made. When free, it allows movement in all planes. When tightened down, it holds my camera and lens very solidly. I'm more than pleased with this purchase. A quality product that is highly recommended.

wasnt sure if it would work with my 500. it seems to. love the flexibility and usability. Need a separate arca swiss plate. would recommend >4" plate, preferably 5" for that lens.

This is my first Gimbal Ever. and the reason i got it is to hold my Canon 70-200 2.8 Mark ii lens. i was amazed of It's lightweight and sturdiness enough to Cary my canon T5i with battery Grip. It's perfect for my set-up

and, soon i will purchase Canon 300 lens and will be mounted on Jobu Gimbal. Would recommend this to a friend.

I got this arm to replace the standard arm as it is a bit lighter and allows the lens to sit a bit lower. If used with a larger lens, as I am, this makes the lens more centered on the pivot arm. I got this gimbal and arm for travel when I'm dealing with weight restrictions that prevent me from using my main gimbal/tripod setup. I used this recently in some day hiking I was doing with my D4 and a 400mm lens and it worked well for me. I wouldn't recommend it as the primary solution for such heavy gear, but it works great for occasional use and weighs a fraction of my main setup.

My first Gimbal - and I don't know why I waited so long to try one! So much easier to use and adjust than a ball head. This Junior size fit my Olympus OMD EM1 and EM5 cameras perfectly. You do need to make sure and buy the attachment arca-swiss plates separately. They come in various sizes, depending on the size/weight of your camera/lens.

I tried the sidekick style from induro and returned it b/c it bounced too much, because suspending a 80-400 or a 300 f4 from its side is too unstable.
This does cost $150 more but is dramatically more stable as one would guess. Gravity has its advantages, the 300 with my tc20 iii requires a super solid platform and the JR3 does it. Super smooth pan and tilt, the design and manufacturing quality is very obvious.
Love it!
