Sure you can spend the time to go out and buy all the same capacitors and label them and bag them individually, and then place them in a box for a cheaper price. But why go through all the hassle when such a product exists? Why would you want to spend hours finding out exactly which products you want and then manually entering them in on an electronics website unless you wanted some practice with something you probably already know how to do?
In short what you get here is a great value because everything is already sorted, labelled, and bagged for you to have access to capacitors on demand for your electronics workshop. I am a tinkerer and an amateur circuit designer, and this assortment has made my life that much easier. When I'm working through a schematic and something's not appearing in my collection of electronics components, I don't have to drive to a retail location to buy a four-pack of capacitors for $5. I can reach into my box, finger through the plastic bags that are sorted by capacitance (or material construction), and grab what I need. Time is money and this product is a real time saver.
I am keeping "Joe" on my hotlist to see what he comes up with next - he has a great offering at a great value. I don't know who this guy is, but he's the type of seller that really makes the Amazon and Prime experience worth it for me.
* The electrolytics appear to be Topmay TMCE02 series, a general high-temp moderate-life cap. Spec sheets can be found online. Note that these will not be Low ESR models that may be wanted for some power supply filtering applications.
* First common value I've found missing was 1.0uF, which can go either to film or electrolytic solutions. In my case I needed film's properties so quickly added those to this collection. I also added a few values of low ESR electrolytics for comparison if nothing else, at voltages much closer to those needed.
* Ideally capacitor voltage ratings don't exceed 10x of those voltages it will be used for. Using voltage ratings much higher than working voltages may result in lower effective capacitance, especially for electrolytics. Everything in the kit is 50v, which means they should be used for 5v and greater applications to stay close to the capacitance values.
Recently I've needed to replenish my 'personal' bench stock of components of all types. I needed a good assortment of capacitors. In the end I actually bought 5 different capacitor assortments from various Amazon Vendors.
One of the first was Joe's assortment. It arrived promptly, was well sorted and packaged and no components were damaged. Like the other component assortments (1/2W resistors, 1W resistors & semiconductors) I bought from him, the parts were good quality and the most often needed values.
I "Quality Checked" perhaps 5-10% of them with my QUALITY LCR meter, all were within tolerance (where tolerance was specified), or if not specified, were within what I personally think reasonable. I don't have the test equipment to "ESR Test" electrolytic capacitors, so I can't speak for the ESR of any of them (such as might be used in switching power supplies etc).
