Encaustic paintings, aluminum & ceramic prints in Texas
My subject matter reflects reminisces from my past work in the oil industry, music, recreation, playing in the woods as a child, and my first technical artwork, spirographs.
About Joel Anderson Art
I have a technical background with one of the first degrees in Computer Engineering from Iowa State University and now reside in Houston, Texas. I worked in the oil industry for 33 years in the Information Technology sector and then retired in 2014. I am a frequent exhibitor at Texas art fairs such as Bayou City Arts Festival and the First Saturday Arts Market in the Houston Heights. I am also active with the Houston Visual Arts Alliance. My work has been exhibited in juried shows in Houston. I have been a member artist at Archway Gallery since 2014.
Encaustic paintings are created using the ancient medium mixing beeswax with a resin hardener. This is applied in layers, fusing each layer with a blow torch. My imagery is typically achieved via digital image transfers. I am now also incorporating 3D-printed objects into some pieces to achieve added depth. I create ceramic tile prints of many of my encaustic originals. These are dye sublimated prints onto 6"x6" or 3"x6" ceramic tiles. I've now added aluminum prints as well, using the same dye sublimation process. Several of these prints also have 3D-printed elements affixed to the surface.
