When Johanna is happy to leave her sister's nasty ways she can't wait to get to Michigan and meet her husband to be.
She meets a woman on the train in the first class seating where she had ticket and a sleeping room that they share. Johanna went to clean up and dress for her wedding and while she is gone her cabin mate looks at her letter to see who here intended is as she works for a mail order agency and while investigating a man in Saginaw, Michigan she will also check up on a bride and offered Johanna to stay with her until her wedding. But when Johanna comes back in the cabin, she is really upset not understanding why her new friend is snooping around in her luggage. Her friend tells her she thought she new who Paul was and wanted to confirm it. Johanna didn't want to hear about her almost husband as she is going to marry him as she has no choice.
What she didn't know when she gets there and meets Paul and his meddling mother, he is not a lumberjack but a lumber mill baron, and is not only rich but very handsome. Johanna just can't take it all in when she sees his home, with servants, nothing she is used too.
They get to know each other and have separate bedrooms until she is ready and he wants to be in love first. Actually they both want that first.
Through twists and turns, their relationship becomes one of mutual attraction and respect and he finds her delightful as well as a very beautiful woman.
Will mom get in the way. Paul isn't going to let her. Johanna is worried about her new mother in law that she will cause trouble but after Johanna has a fall and is hurt badly right in the scar of her leg and almost dies, she finds her mother in law a really kind woman after all. Paul says she has really changed.
They finally take a honeymoon at his lumberjack camp which is pretty much empty of people at this time.
This is an awesome, wonderfully written book and I highly recommend you read. I loved it so much that Clara Kincaid is now an author I will be reading more of. I really enjoyed this story and it was really well written.
What a surprise to find instead of marrying a lumberjack she was marrying a lumber baron. If anyone deserved that Johanna truly did.
It was sweet, with a good storyline.
The description of the work of the mill was interesting too.
