    Product description

Bring home a culinary classic from the Classic Reversible End Grain Chopping Block collection by John Boos. The Classic collection features butcher blocks made with beautiful end grain construction, resulting in the iconic checkerboard wood pattern. Classic Reversible blocks are available in thicknesses ranging from 2.25-6 inches. True to their roots, Classic Collection Chopping Blocks are ideal for daily cutting, chopping and food preparation tasks. Since 1887, every genuine John Boos cutting board and butcher block has been proudly made in Effingham, Illinois by skilled craftspeople using time honored techniques. Today, USA made John Boos cutting boards and butcher blocks are used and loved in commercial and home kitchens worldwide. Generations of culinary professionals have trusted and relied on John Boos products, because Boos blocks and cutting boards are designed to meet the demanding requirements of culinary professionals who expect the highest level of quality and food safety standards. The robust and durable construction gives the work surface a commercial grade toughness that protects the sharp edge on fine cutlery. Often imitated, John Boos and Co. is internationally known for its expertise in crafting American hardwoods into products of beauty, durability and function. Simple board care can ensure this heirloom, handcrafted board is a favorite in your kitchen for years to come. Every John Boos Board and Block comes with a food safe natural oil finish that helps protect the wood during transit. Once a month, apply an even coat of John Boos Mystery Oil (NSF approved, sold separately), and allow it to soak in overnight. Repeat this process more often when the board is brand new or if you live in a dry, arid climate. John Boos recommends applying John Boos Board Cream (also sold separately) to seal the top of the wood surface after applying the Mystery Oil. A few quick minutes of regular oil application will ensure your new board is properly seasoned, and ready for work! After use, wash board with warm, soapy water (all wooden cutting boards are not dishwasher safe and should not be soaked in water)..

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY! Original CRACKED! Two replacements CRACKED! 3rd time is NOT the charm!
By Dave on December 13, 2017
[[ASIN:B00CRUDO0Y John Boos Maple Wood End Grain Reversible Butcher Block Cutting Board, 20"x 15" x 2.25 Inches]]

I eyeballed this for a year. It went on sale from $185 to $125 and I jumped. I cook every day. I looked at this board for over a year. I failed to read these reviews. I’m a skeptic of reviews and this is my 2nd review ever. Let me tell you how badly disappointed I am. Not once, not twice, but three times. This is not the board for anyone. I know Boos and said do not put hot items on it. Do not let water sit on it. I’m not guilty of those. Not at all. I’ve cared for the original and TWO replacements. As soon as the cellophane wrapper came of, I instantly put Boos brand oil and let it sit overnight. Next day put Boos brand cream and let it sit overnight. Each and every board has separation between chunks of wood in random places. I suppose they are using different adhesive than from when they were making quality products.

Purchased December and replaced January after three sections of separation. The replacement had separation after two weeks.

"Thank you for contacting John Boos. We are sorry for the inconvenience you have encountered. It is very common for end grain boards to sometimes separate. As there is still glue visible in the glue line, continued oiling monthly with Boos Mystery Oil should allow the block to swell back up. If you do not see improvement by the end of April, please contact us and we will look into this further.”

I’m not sure why they wanted me to wait but I did and there was no difference. The glue didn’t magically expand to fill in the separation nor did it magically pull the two pieces of wood together over time. On 5/2/17 I told them there was no magic.

Thank you for contacting John Boos. We are sorry for the inconvenience you have encountered. I will send you another replacement board. Please confirm the size of your board as well as the complete address where I need to ship the replacement.

They were backordered and would have stock 5/26/17. I asked if this was a bad batch and asked for a different board but they could not do that.

During the second replacement they said "We ship thousands and thousands of boards and very rarely have issues. It is possible that the glue just did not adhere properly. I am very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you.”

I’m not sure exactly when in late May or June 2017 that I got my replacement, but it’s been 6 months and now the 3rd board is separating. They will send a 3rd and FINAL replacement but they are backordered for another 3 weeks. (AGAIN). Probably because they suck at life. They will not refund because I purchased here on Amazon.

By Jason Y. Kwon on June 1, 2016
    First of all,
The first thing I did when I got this was to rub it down with Boos block and and board cream. I kept it clean and dry... both sides.
Within a week it had cracked

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad cutting board or bad Company
    By Charles S. on May 4, 2019
I purchased this cutting board a couple of years ago and it began to show cracks immediately. I maintained it monthly with the Boos mystery oil but it continued to crack. Now one crack is 4 inches long and 1/8 inch wide. I emailed an image of the problem to the Boos company last week and their solution was to apply wood glue to the crack and clamp it shut over night. I tried their solution and before I could close the crack, the entire corner broke off as you can see in the image with the clamp. This is my second Boos end grain cutting board, same problem with the first board. There will not be a third! If Boos made a quality durable cutting board in the past that time is gone!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Failure at 57 days, despite care. So sad because it's so beautiful.
By Alexander Alotte on June 2, 2015
Very frustrating. Cracked after 57 days, with EXCEEDINGLY attentive and proper care. I oiled, I waxed, I kept the cutting board dry, and wiped it after EVERY use, and DURING every use, and none the less it cracked less than two months after purchase. I cook very nearly daily, but as pictures will prove, it was treated exemplary well. It still cracked. I don't quite know what more to say, other than that, when I pay very nearly 200 dollars for a cutting board I expect it to last, a very very very long time, 57 days does not fit that bill. Clearly Boos puts a LOT of work into making beautiful wood products, but they need to find a way to fix this issue. The look and feel of this board is amazing, but it cannot crack, and especially inside of the two month mark. I hope they fix this issue. (6/2/2015)

3.0 out of 5 stars Board split after a month of use and proper care
By Katie on October 17, 2017
This is a beautiful cutting board, and I bought it a month ago because I thought with the end grain it would be very durable. Unfortunately, despite applying the Boos board cream and taking great care of it, it has already broken. I've never posted a review before and was hoping to actually speak with a customer service representative, but I couldn't find any way to contact the seller...
