About John Bushby
Author John Bushby draws his inspiration from the classic spy films of the forties. He was introduced to the film noire genre while in grade school. Beginning by watching grainy films on a1950s black and white television he began to satiate his taste for the genre by reading everything he could find. He soon became a regular at the bookstore and library. Bushby has drawn on the experience of over thirty years of global business experience, traveling in and out of Europe and Asia to set the background for his books.
His characters come from the people he has met along the way. Heroes and villains are drawn from casual and close acquaintances, often a mixture of both. His stories put the reader in the place where they ask, what would I do in a situation where life or death might hang in the balance? Bushby's characters live in the years between the two world wars caught in the swirl of action and intrigue as spies try to best one another and evil and good position themselves for the catastrophe to come.
Bushby was born in Westfield, NJ. He earned his pilot's license at age 16 flying out of what was then Hadley Airport in South Plainfield,NJ. A 1966 graduate of Westfield High School, he has a BS from Rider College and an MBA from the Wharton School. Blog postMaybe I’m just a cranky old man, but I don’t like getting phone calls. I refuse to put in a land line, so I am left with my iPhone, which serves me more as a computer terminal than a two-way voice device. With the exception of FaceTime calls from my grandchildren, I really don’t like […]

Blog postI don’t know about you, but as a kid I never gave much thought to birds. Of course, in Mrs. Conklin’s first grade class we were divided into reading groups by bird color. I recall being elated when I was elevated from the Red Birdsto the Blue Birds. I guess because I was a phonetic reader. Anyway, birds […]

Blog postThis year we decided to spend Christmas in Asheville at the Grove Park Inn. It is quite a place. Blog postNumber Nine Nine seems to me to me a significant number of anything. Blog postSix years ago I invented a character, Harry Braham. Prowler Ball
Nov 28, 2013
$1.99
Prowler Ball is written as a novelized autobiography about a time of challenge and conflict. It brings to life the experience of a young naval flight officer sent off to the Gulf of Tonkin to support the air war in Vietnam. The book began as a series of notes and sketches written by the author during his combat cruise to Vietnam during 1972-73. It is the story of young men thrust into combat to fight what is perhaps America’s least popular conflict. Unlike the fighting heroes of the “Greatest Generation” these veterans suffered derision and scorn upon their return to American society.
This book is a chronicle of the last few months of that war. It was a time of intense air operations against targets in North Vietnam. The American nation had tired of the war, and dissention was rife at home. Still, young men volunteered for the naval service and put themselves through the rigors of training to learn to fly sophisticated jet airplanes in the defense of their country. No amount of politically correct smugness can detract from the courage and heroism that they displayed in the skies over Vietnam. Though a novel, the chapters in Prowler Ball are filled with of true incidents and details of missions that were carried out during September 1972 through the middle of 1973, by the members of an elite electronic warfare squadron embarked aboard USS Enterprise. The missions culminated in December 1972 with the airstrikes known as Linebacker II
