I heard Roger McGuinn being interviewed on NPR yesterday, and learned about this site. I have loved folk music all my life, including Peter, Paul and Mary, Joan Baez, the Kingston Trio, etc. I guess I never considered the Byrds as folk artists. I know I may be treading on thin ice by bringing him up, but I have been an ultimate John Denver fan from the time he became popular in the 70's to his untimely death in 1997. John refused to allow himself to be pigeonholed as an artist, which caused his later music to be rejected by the powers that be in the industry. It's a shame, because his later music, in my opinion, is better than most of his early music. Anyway, I know John's performing roots were in the folk genre, including a stint as a later member of the Chad Mitchell Trio. I've always felt that John didn't garner the respect he deserved as an artist because of his squeaky-clean image. I am interested to know if there is anyone in the folk music community that knows and likes John and his music? I've always thought that if his music had to be defined, it would best fit in the folk genre.
