Product description
This is a photo-illustrated book unlike any ever written about President John F. Kennedy. It's about a young photographer who had just turned 16 who seized the opportunity to go on a five-hour whirlwind tour of his hometown, Tampa, Florida, with President Kennedy. That day occurred only four days before Kennedy's assassination in Dallas. The author, who was able to talk his way into obtaining an "all areas" press pass for the day, takes the reader along as he follows the President for an exhaustive five hours of speeches and handshakes on what would be JFK's final major visit to an American city before Dallas. He writes candidly and with great detail and the excitement and anticipation of spending a busy day with the chief executive away from the White House. "John F. Kennedy - An Amazing Day for a President and a Kid with His Camera" is a unique combination of powerful pictures and insightful words that chronicle a Presidential visit from a teen's perspective. It's a memory-filled adventure of a young man who ran across the tarmac at an Air Force Base in defiance of the U.S.Secret Service to get greater access to the Presidential party; ran up to and shook a stunned JFK's hand and later had the President stare him down for taking a photo of him tying his shoe. You'll feel the grandeur of a Presidential visit, the marvel of a City mesmerized by the appearance of one of American history's most beloved Presidents and the deep emptiness that enveloped Tampa, the nation and young Tony when it was learned that our leader and friend was no longer with us. This is a unique combination of dramatic narrative and insightful words that compose a must-read you won't want to put down. It includes dozens of photos, some never before seen, that Tony took as he moved forward that day. There is no better remembrance of President John F. Kennedy than this first-hand intimate look at a final major Presidential visit.

If you are a JFK fan, this picture book is a prize. It features one sunny day, November 18, 1963, when a high school journalist and his camera got to follow President Kennedy around Tampa, FL. Poignant, it emanates regard for the man and departs from analyzing his assassination. This is not a glossy splashy product, and I devoured it's simplicity. It was a fascinating personal experience that changed a young man's life, and I got from the pictures and narrative that the photojournalist's regard was returned by his subject.
