John Lennon: The Boy Who Became A Legend Kindle Edition
New book reveals for the first time how John Lennon’s school friend turned Lennon onto rock ‘n’ roll - and left the future Beatle speechless
Michael Hill was one of the few to have known John Lennon from the age of five and, in a revealing and engrossing new book, a close friend of Lennon’s during twelve mischief-filled school years, offers a perceptive and amusing first-hand analysis of the formative years of the future Beatle and of the events that shaped his character. The book, titled “John Lennon: The Boy Who Became A Legend” offers a fresh and unique look at the formative years of Lennon, and how, in Michael’s house, he knew that rock ‘n’ roll was his destiny.
Lennon recalled that moment: “Little Richard was one of the all time greats. The first time I heard him a friend of mine (Michael Hill) had been to Holland and brought back a 78
with ‘Long Tall Sally’. That’s the music that brought me from the provinces of England to the world. That’s what made me what I am.............when I heard it, it was so great I couldn’t speak.”
Rod Davis, a mutual friend of John Lennon and Michael Hill, was one of the original Quarry Men, Lennon’s group that became The Beatles. Davis wrote the foreword to the book and said about it:
"Unlike so many authors who have written about John, Michael Hill was actually there. Michael's book reveals some amazing insights into hitherto unprobed corners of John Lennon's life. It's a fascinating read."
To fully understand the life of John Lennon and how the boy became a legend, you have to read Michael Hill’s book, one of the few true eyewitnesses to the childhood of the famous Beatle.
Reviews:
“A fascinating memoir” (Philip Norman, author of “John Lennon: A Life”)
“Hill’s reminiscences renew Lennon’s music in fascinating ways.” (Tim Riley, author of “Lennon: the Man, the Myth, the Music”)
“A wonderful fun read adding huge perspective to John’s formative years. A must have book.” (Shelley Germeaux, “John Lennon Examiner”)

Great details and very interesting information about John’s childhood told by his “mate” for many years.

If you’re you’re a Lennon fan, this should be a must-read. I have read many books about the Beatles; andJohn specifically but none offered what this does. This books gives a glimpse into what John was like as a child, young boy and young man from the perspective of a friend and classmate. I particularly enjoyed reading about John’s antics and pranks. I subtracted one star only due to poor editing/proof reading. More time should have been spent on that. Otherwise, it’s an easy and enjoyable read and I’m glad to have found it.

This is an easy read - lots of interesting facts of John's childhood - some I knew, some I didn't. I would recommend it to any John Lennon fan.

This is a delightful book that stands on its own as a sweet childhood memoir. That the author was a friend of "our hero," John Lennon, makes it even more fascinating. I enjoyed the story of the Quarry Bank holiday in Wales! I was also happy that he explained how he came to write this book; it tied everything up with a nice bow. Michael Hill has had a wonderful life - and I'm sure we all envy him his early memories, which afford him special insights about John's later life. Godspeed, Michael!

This book deserves to be better known. I'm a big Beatles fan, have been since 1963 but only knew John through his persona of charisma and talent. This tells me what he was like as a child, schoolboy, and young adult. And it's scary! Should I tell you? I'll spoil it if I do. Just to say that if like me you've idolised the Beatle (with a small i) all these years you'll be surprised to discover how he was as a kid. Un-heroic? - this is John, warts and all. An unusual boy became an unusual man. The everyday life events will also chime with those who grew up in the 1950's too. The best tribute I can pay this book is to say it's as good as a Beatles song. An important contribution to Beatles lore. Well done to the author.

Absolutely fascinating book by Michael, John lennon schoolmate. I am from Liverpool and filled in a lot of gaps about Liverpool Post war, and the information about John that people wouldn't know about.
Laugh out loud moments where I was crying tears of laughter to very sad times.
The segment on long tall Sally will have you amazed and enthralled, thanks for writing this book Michael, so glad I bought it and read it.

A very repetitive book!

I was really disappointed by this book. For a start the entire book, from start to finish, was desperately in need of having been in the hands of a Proof Reader! The way it's been typed up and sent out is a total mess!
And I really wish I had 50pence for each and every time he wrote "my house" - yes, he was John's school friend, but he really forces the fact that John went to HIS house, listened to HIS records, and states that it's down to him alone setting John on a music path! Honestly, he repeats this so many times that when you come across it again and again it makes your eyes gloss over in boredom and scan read the page as you've already numerously read the facts!
I'll admit I enjoyed reading about their escapades as children, it opened my eyes to a lot which I didn't know about John as this is the first biography of his which I've read.I
It really is a "school boy memoir" type of book, badly written which is a shame, if only he had paid for a Proof Reader to edit the book it would have made reading it far more enjoyable.
