Dr. John Southard is a technology planner and academic administrator having focused most of his professional career in the service of higher education, where he has held many diverse positions, such as CTO, CIO, acting Dean, acting Provost, and Vice President of Research & Development. He is currently the Chief Technology Officer at New York Law School (New York City) and has held similar executive positions at Adelphi University, Pratt Institute, Molloy College, New York Institute of Technology, and Polytechnic Institute. He has also worked in the technology development and transfer areas as an entrepreneur and principal of his own consulting firm as well as for large corporations dealing with content creation and distribution. His focus and specialties are alternative urban infrastructure (Metro Ethernet LAN/WANs), IT staff and support model creation and development, and strategic planning.
Dr. Southard has been a colleague and friend of Nasser Sharify since they met in January of 1985 at Pratt Institute, where they crafted an enduring friendship around collaborative research interests. He was part of the conceptual core that created the Nasser Sharify Foundation where he served briefly as President. He is currently the Managing Editor of the Nasser Sharify Festschrift. He is a graduate of the University of Scranton and Adelphi University with research degrees in experimental psychology, specializing in cognition and learning theory and systems.
