John U. Bacon has written seven books on sports and business, the last four all New York Times Bestsellers. He is publishing two more in 2017: Playing Hurt with John Saunders in August, and The Great Halifax Explosion in November.
Bacon provides weekly sports commentary on Michigan Radio, and frequently for NPR, and appears often on TV, including CNN International, ESPN, and The Big Ten Network. Bacon also gives speeches for companies such as Ameriprise, Volvo North America, and Microsoft Brazil, and teaches at Northwestern's Medill School of Journalism and the University of Michigan, where he won the 2009 Golden Apple Award for "exceptional teaching." In 2006, he was inducted into the Ann Arbor Huron High School Hall of Fame for turning around the hockey team.
Bacon is a decent hockey player, a mediocre Spanish speaker, and a poor piano player, but that has not prevented him from enjoying all three.
