The Jonard Dp-100 high-vacuum spring-operated desoldering pump removes solder from printed circuit boards. The Teflon (PTFE) nonstick coated tip and cushioned shock reduction minimize board damage. The corrosion-resistant spring and an insulated vacuum pulse provide long life. The pump has a regulated return of 1 millisecond + or - 30% and uniform reset pressure of 11 inch-pounds + or - 20%. It has a 13" long corrosion-resistant plastic body.

Better than the metal ones...& a few helpful techniques

I really value quality when I'm buying a tool. I was hesitant towards this one because I generally prefer metal over plastic, but after doing some research I found that this style was recommended by a large number of people. The reason is because it has a much larger chamber and, therefore, much greater suction. It worked really well to get the solder off, but here are a few tips that helped me.

1) I noticed it was losing suction after a few uses and I opened it up and realized the o-ring didn't fit that tight and was only lightly coated with oil. I recoated it with plumber's silicon grease (Vaseline would probably work too) and it has worked great ever since. I put it on my hand and I could feel it suck my skin in the nozzle (it's pretty powerful, but didn't seem so powerful that it would cause damage or anything). So clean and regrease if you ever have problems.

2) The solder HAS TO BE HOT. I found that the best way was to apply heat, melt the solder, and then while my iron is still in the edge of the solder put the nozzle of the pump in the solder (pushing the soldering iron tip out of the way) and fire it immediately. The nozzle seems to withstand heat well and has shown no sign of heat damage. The technique took a little getting use to, but once I got it it was easy. Better than always buying tons of solder wick.

Good for 200 uses or less...

When new, the Jonard desoldering tool works better than any of the other designs I've used. It's much better than the Jonard clones which sell for about half of this price.

However, this is definitely not for production work. After about 200 uses, the plastic clip which holds the spring to the plunger breaks, rendering the unit unusable. Replacements aren't available.

Issue number two is that the plastic tip wears extremely quickly. While replacements are available, they really shouldn't melt so quickly.

It wouldn't take much to fix these issues and make this a five-star review.

Best value per dollar

This isn't the cheapest model out there, but I think it's one of the better options. I have this model and another cheaper one ($5 'add-on item' desoldering pump I got from Amazon). This one is significantly better. The tip is removable, it pulls a higher volume of air and with greater force than most other desoldering pumps I've used. The only potential issue that I can think of is that it's larger than the cheaper ones (13" from the tip to the top of the plunger)--if you have tiny hands it might be a bit awkward to use. I love it though.

It sucks the solder joint dry

I used this style pump for 30 years in the steel mill. You can take them apart to clean. It sucks the solder joint dry. All you need to do is give a gentle pry to the board component and it pops free

Have had two. First one died after a year ...

Have had two. First one died after a year of light use (broke at plunger). The tip on this one often pops off when pressing the plunger. This happens when solder blocks the opening. Of course, solder almost ALWAYS blocks the opening unless you open the device and empty it of solder after EVERY single use! So this is unacceptable.

The best Non-electric desoldering pump ever

This is the best non-electric desoldering pump I have ever used. I had one for many years that finally broke and I bought other more expensive pumps that did not work as well and broke quickly. I was very glad to see this on Amazon. It is a little large to carry in a tool bag but the smaller ones just don't work well at all since the vacuum chamber is so small.

Too big for small job

The tip of this item is to big to suck the melted solder. I know I did not noticed the size when I ordered it, but I don't recommend it for small jobs, like working on laptop motherboard.
