As expected, the Jonathan Clements Money Guide 2015 is written in the author's trademark style with smart, focused discussion of many facets of personal finance. Moreover, the book is divided into 367 sections, each a few paragraphs long, which allows you to jump to a topic of interest without having to wade through long chapters. I found it useful, however, to read the book from cover to cover on the first pass and then cherry pick topics at the second and subsequent readings.
Few, if any, of the personal finance books I've read provide this breadth of coverage with such clarity of presentation - all without any graphs, charts, or equations. If you're looking for a fundamental grounding in personal finance, you can't do much better than this book. It should appeal to anyone concerned with money matters, from college graduate to retiree.
Reading this 2015 guide will teach or reacquaint you with first principles, show you better ways to manage your money, and help keep you on track towards achieving your financial goals. All in all, money well spent.
The author has promised a 2016 guide updated with statistics and advice to match events as they unfold during the course of this year. I expect to be among the first in line to purchase the next book when published.
Sophisticated investors will already know most of what is here, but it is nevertheless a valuable exercise to go back to the ground floor and see everything laid out clearly in one place. Beginners will take an immediate leap in understanding. Most important, they will learn how to avoid all the most common mistakes and thereby optimize their portfolios and their life satisfaction.
