Beginning bike riders will find great success on the Joovy Bicycoo Balance Bike. With a super strong yet lightweight aluminum frame, this balance bike is easier to control than heavier options. It features 12-in. refillable pneumatic tires that provide superior suspension for a smoother ride and outlast the EVA plastic tires you'll find on other bikes. The tires are also wide 12x2.5 making balancing easier. There is a rear hand brake and the brake cable is internally routed through the frame. Dimensions: 33.5L x 16.25W x 21.5H in.; 8.75 lbs.. Foot-to-floor, kid powered balance bike. Recommended for children 18 months & up to 55 lbs.. Aluminum frame in choice of colors. Seat height adjusts from 14 - 15.25 in.. Refillable 12-in. pneumatic wheels.
From the Manufacturer
The Joovy Bicycoo won designs awards at Europe's largest cycling trade show. It is the best looking, best functioning balance bike on the market! The frame is made of aluminum so it is strong and lightweight. The lightweight frame makes controlling the bike much easier for kids, unlike the heavy wooden and steel versions. The tires are pneumatic and refillable. Many balance bikes on the market use EVA plastic tires which are cheaper and wear out much quicker than these rubber tires. The suspension qualities of pneumatic tires provide a much smoother ride. The wide 2.5" tires on the BicycooGT provide better stability for the child. There is also a rear hand brake. When you combine the high quality of the Bicycoo with Joovy's great customer service, you can't go wrong with this bike. The seat is height adjustable for a perfect fit. The bike has 12" tires and the overall dimensions are 33.50" x 16.25" x 21.50". The weight is 8.75 lbs.

The tires are wider than I expected and probably help balance, and contributes to its sturdy look and feel. All the edges are nicely designed so that when my son ran over his own foot, he didn't get hurt by hardware on the bike (like a long bolt). One of the things I like best is that it is so light. My son can move it without help if he gets stuck against a curb etc., and when he falls it doesn't crush or pinch him (we were concerned about that with a larger, heavier bike with pedals). He has only had it a few days, and he is still trying to adjust from a tricycle, but each day he is getting better. The down side may be that there is no place to put his feet... but right now he doesn't have the balance or speed to really need foot pegs. It does have a hand break on the left handle... right now my son's hand is way too small to operate it, and it seems unnecessary. However, maybe in a year's time he will grow into it and need it as his skills develop.
I would have rated this product a five, except that I have not had it very long and think that part of a five-star rating should include durability.
So its been almost a year and we just got my a bike with pedals. The Joovy has spoiled us! In hindsight, I do have some perspective on this bike. As noted above, the brake handle was never really functional. I think it took my son about 6 months before he became interested in learning how to ride it. I think no foot pegs helped him learn quicker and was never really a factor (at least until he was ready for his next bike). This bike has been very durable as well. So why did the joovy spoil us? Well, there really is nothing like it in the next phase / pedal-world. All the bikes are heavy and cumbersome. Although my son learned to ride a pedal bike in about 15 minutes (awesome!) he is most frustrated by trying to push, start, control the tank of a pedal-bike he has now. Also, he has crashed the new tank a couple of times and has gotten pretty banged up (not by the road, but by the rough edges of the bike bolts/handle bars/etc.). If I could change a couple of things about the joovy (and this is minor), I would redesign the silly brake or get rid of it altogether, and I would make the set more adjustable as my son has grown too tall too quickly and asked me for the last 3 months to make the seat taller. Last thing... joovy needs to take the next step and make a sleek, light, 1o"/12" first pedal-bike.
My little Drama Queen is admittedly too small (at 1.5yrs of age) but will have it at her disposal whenever she's ready to get her extreme sports career underway. She's not too far from being able to touch the ground when seated but it's hard to tell cause she's rarely still long enough to be sure.
Impressive design here by Joovy, I'd like to see them expand their line. The seat and grips are well made, comfy and stylish. The axle nuts and headstay are wrapped in a ball-end design to reduce contact between little kids precious limbs and sharp edges. The tires pump up easily and provide grippy traction on slick surfaces like hardwood floors (and blue-groove BMX lines). The red rims, grips and seat accent really pop (visually) against the white frame and fork. One thing I'd like to see them add would be a rubber grommet or cover to slide onto the underside of the seat post (as it extrudes below the frame quite a bit when adjusted to it's lowest setting). A casual stroll down the isles of my local hardware store yielded an acceptable cover in the form of a thick rubber o-ring.
I'm pretty sure the frame is made of aluminum, it's very lightweight and overall it appears to be a high quality build and the finish is super trick!
