J.F. Mailander grew up in a nondescript neighborhood near LAX.
His father left school at the outbreak of World War II to become an officer in the Canadian Navy, serving on mine sweepers in the North Atlantic and the English Channel. His mother was a nurse who spoke Russian and English.
JFM went to Columbia and UCLA. Since 1981, his fiction, poetry, and 400 of his cultural and political pieces have appeared in many top print and online publications. He has also worked in politics, arts administration, and banking. He is presently working on a suite of nine novels that span the past fifty years.
