In the us and UK, the average household throws away anywhere between 25-30% of the food and drink it purchases, mainly due to food spoilage. Keeping track of 'best before' and 'use by' dates is a tricky task and if there is any doubt about a food's condition, it is usually thrown out. New dial storage, however, offers the perfect solution. Each container in the range comes with a clever contra-rotating dial in the lid, which allows you to clearly date the contents - either with a 'use by' or 'when stored' date. Simply turn the dial clockwise to set the month and counter-clockwise to set the day, with the date being visible in the clear window. Available in a range of shapes and sizes, these BPA-free containers are perfect for use in the fridge or freezer. Date it. Don't waste it. Bases: dishwasher safe (top rack), freezer and microwave safe. Lids: hand washing recommended, top-rack dishwasher safe up to 122 degree, freezer safe, not microwave safe. The food we waste - wrap (2008); global food losses and food waste - FAO (2011); natural resources defense council (2012).

I like the dial up, you turn the dial to get the month, and reverse the dial to get they day. Seems very well built.
Like I said, it's high-quality plastic, but that's also a negative when it comes to functionality. Perhaps the date function is to blame for the sturdy construction of the lid, but the whole thing is absolutely inflexible. That makes it very difficult to pry open.
Also, although the manufacturer says this can be placed on the top rack of the dishwasher, I fear exposing it to that much heat would absolutely ruin it.
Likewise, I hesitate to submerge the lid in the sink because the date dial is not watertight. Any water that seeps in around the dial has no drain and would therefore be trapped inside. It's possible to clean the bottom of the lid without submerging it, but that'd be a lot of effort if you're using this to store messy foods like lasagna or casserole leftovers.
But, again, great for baked goods and other non-messy foods.
