I joined the Bible journaler's community about a year and a half ago with my first journaling Bible. I started with an ESV journaling Bible by Crossway, because at the time there were a lot fewer options. (Mine actually has two columns of text, which was something I wanted to do differently with my next Bible as single-column really does allow more space for notes and artistic expression.) Since then I have been dying for a single column Bible, but had resisted. And boy am I glad I did because this one hits two birds with one stone and is both a single column and a large print!
As I began to explore the illustrated faith movement I fell in love with the creativity and personal expression that comes with illustrating your faith.
My first few months of Bible journaling I spent hours and hours on each entry and created true masterpieces. They are like monuments marking things that God spoke to me, things that were changing in my life, and serve as beautiful reminders of what God was doing in my life and heart.
Later, I committed to doing simple black-and-white drawings so that I would find myself diving in more frequently.
And now I take a few of my favorite supplies with me to church and I even journal there.
I love the variety that is in the pages of my Bible! But after spending almost 2 years in my original journaling Bible, and doing all kinds of creating I'm running out of space. So I will be honest I wrote a wish list of things that I would hope for in my next journaling Bible.
This beautiful New King James version, large print, single column journaling Bible is everything I wanted and more! (Thank you Thomas Nelson!) And to be honest the only thing I might change would be the colors on the cover… That being said the colors, print and high quality fabric is absolutely gorgeous - I just happen to like the burgundy color of the NIV version a tad better. And being a creative those things can matter. :-)
At first I wasn't sure about the New King James version, but I felt that way about the English Standard Version when I first got my other Bible too. What I have found is that I love having a variety of versions that I work between and this will be no exception.
All that said this Bible will be my constant companion. I will be using paint, ink, many kinds of pens, stamps and so much more to fill the pages with worship and pieces of personal expression to the Lord.
Often people's main issue with journaling Bibles has been about the size of the font and let me tell you this large print Bible completely assuages those complaints. The trade-off is that, yes, the Bible is slightly taller and thicker than if you have regular size font, but the "regular" font in these journaling Bibles tends to be a size 8 point font and I agree that is very small. I love how easy the words are to read on the pages and how much room it gives you to express yourself.
I received a copy of this incredible Bible in exchange for my honest review. But let me tell you I'd be picking one up if I hadn't been gifted one!
The cover of this Bible is a cream color with leaves of various colors (green, blue, purple) and it has a beautiful teal on the spine and corners. The colors are vibrant and beautiful. Because this Bible is Large Print, it's much thicker than a regular print journaling Bible and thus quite heavy. But I LOVE that the words are so large.
If you love journaling, or know someone who does - this is a wonderful Bible to give as a gift (or to give to yourself!)

The NKJV Journal The Word Bible in large print is available in some beautiful cover options, including this nice fabric floral, as well as plainer covers. It has a more easily read 10 point typeface with nice, wide margins with light lines in a thicker, creamy-colored paper for art journaling, or just journaling in general. The words of Christ are in red.It has a beautiful sewn binding that lays flat with a ribbon marker. It is just very nice and still not real large to carry to church, although thicker than some other Bibles.
I think this Bible is beautiful inside and out. I like this Bible version and I especially like that it is red-letter. Other Journaling Bibles I have looked at were not. I also like that it is not real large even though it is large print so it is easier to carry and travel with. It measures roughly 8 inches by 6 1/2 inches and is 2 inches thick. I have the Inspire Bible in Large Print (Tyndale) and it is considerably larger at 10 inches by 7 1/2 inches and is still 2 inches thick. It is a nice Bible for journaling with more journaling space since it is larger but is fairly large to travel with. The pages of the NKJV Jouranl the Word Bible are thicker than regular Bibles and comparable to the Inspire Bible. I think that if the pages are treated with gesso as recommended in some of the journaling tutorials I have seen that there would not be any bleed through. However, without that, there could be some bleed through with markers. I prefer to use colored pencils in my Bible journaling so it is not an issue for me. The cover is cloth and may show some wear or dirt, but I think if it were also treated with a protective gesso type coating (I am looking into this), that it would be fine and last for a long time. All in all, this is just a beautiful Bible for art journaling, or just journaling. I would highly recommend it.
I received this Bible from Thomas Nelson. I was not required to write a positive review in exchange for the book.
