The Bible is supposed to have thicker paper to assist with note taking…I compared it to my Life Application Study Bible and the pages do feel slightly thicker but the difference is very slight. My primary intention for this Bible is to use it for artistic Bible journaling so the thickness of pages are important.
The text is a 9.3 point size, which is a bit smaller than I prefer but it was probably necessary to allow for the wide margins. The margins are spacious and have faint lines for note taking. The titles and captions are in a pleasant burgundy color and the words of Jesus are in red. Overall the appearance of this Bible is very basic, but this is desirable for those who wish to add their own creative touch or to use it as a journaling Bible. I also could see many men enjoying this Bible as the style is very clean and simple.
There are cross-references on the side columns, in the middle of the book. The Bible also contains a dictionary-concordance, which is a feature I really like and will use often. The table of contents includes the books in the order of the Bible as well as in alphabetical order, which could be very helpful for finding the lesser known books.
Overall, I am extremely pleased with this Bible and plan on using it for many years to come.
I received this book from Booklook Bloggers to review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I received this Bible from Book Look Bloggers from my honest review.
The NIV has long been my favorite translation of The Bible. The font size in this bible is easy to read. It also lays flat on your desk so it fulfills it's duty as a reference bible. As a reference bible it is an excellent assistant in understanding The Bible.
The NIV, Journal the Word Reference Bible, is an incredible Bible for those of us who like to do more than passively read The Bible. It is for creative souls who are inspired by God's word. It is for reflective souls who want to interpret what they are reading with their thoughts and with illustrations from other verses. It will end up being one of your most treasured possessions.
Highly recommend The NIV, Journal the Word Reference Bible.
Reflect on What You Learn
The New International Version is an easy-to-read translation, perfect for Bible study. As a writer who is instinctively attracted to a good notebook, the NIV, Journal the Word Reference Bible more than meets my criteria as the perfect Bible for me. It is also a wonderful resource for our homeschool Bible studies, with space on each page for note-taking.
The Journal the Word Bible resembles a Moleskine notebook. It has a black hardcover, with nothing printed on the front. It includes a bright red ribbon bookmark and an elastic strap that slides from the back over the front cover (a plus for portability). This Bible has ivory pages with cross-references in the inside margins instead of the bottom of the page. It also includes lines on the outer margins for journaling.
Bible Journaling and Study
The large font is small but readable (9.3 font size), and the red-lettered words of Christ are a nice bonus (and not a garish bright red–more of a burgundy-red). I can comfortably hold it in one hand, and the pages lay flat when the Bible is opened, even when holding it on my lap. There are no frills to NIV, Journal the Word Reference Bible: no maps, devotions, lists, etc. It does include a concise Dictionary/Concordance at the end. It is plain and simple, and that is what makes it so nice. It is really beautiful in its simplicity.
The publisher provided a review copy, but I was not required to write a positive review.
