Journey of the Heart is an amazing collection of romances set in the wild west, offering tales of strong women thriving in a forbidding frontier and finding love. Each story is unique and enticing. I loved them all. They made me laugh, cry and melt … all in good order.
Being a woman in those days wasn’t easy and one of my favorite lines comes from Tanya Hanson’s story, Sorry, about an independently-minded woman born in a brothel and determined to stand on her own two feet. Her aunt abhorred by her riding a bicycle tries to set her straight. “A woman is to be silent and respectful. Not wandering fast and loose on an indecent set of wheels amongst civilized people … and wearing trousers.”
How far we’ve come!
Jacqui Nelson’s story, Following Faith, is a well-crafted mix of adventure, suspense and romance. As the story opens Faith Featherby is abruptly dismissed from her teaching job in a small logging town by the school committee. Nelson draws the characters so well, you feel as if you’re part of the scene, listening to two old bitties accuse her of inappropriate behavior. With no relatives and no friends, Faith sets out to find the little girl she believes owns the spirit horse she has befriended. On the journey she meets Eagle and their adventure together begins. It’s a wonderful romantic story.
The linking theme of modes of transportation in the Old West offers the reader a lot to think about, but for me the central and binding theme is true love.
Faith Featherby is practically run out of Timber Creek town labeled a woman of loose morals by the town gossipers. Losing her position as the schoolmistress with no friends or family and with limited funds her future is bleak. With only Spirit the lame horse she nursed back to health and a small daguerreotype of the horse and a young girl named Yellow Feather taken in Little Haven she sets of to find her.
Eagle Feather a man who believes that he brings harm to those he loves. He lives in turmoil and has no hope of ever finding a home or a woman to love him and banish the savage he believes lives inside him. Faith brings peace and strength to him the conviction that maybe through her his heart can find a home....a home with her and Yellow Feather.
Can Eagle Feather banish the hurt and mend his heart with Faith's tender touch and love? Will Faith's journey finally have a home for her heart?
Jacqui Nelson gives you a realistic glimpse into the Wild West and frontier life, a journey into Eagles and Faith's travels through the west vividly portrayed that leaves the reader traveling the portals of that bygone era!
A wonderful story. One will definitely enjoy this quick read of redemption and second chance at love a sweet read all around. Masterfully written!
Received an ARC from the author for my honest opinion.
So far, I've read Following Faith by Jacqui Nelson. It's the story of Eagle Feather and Faith. Orphaned at a young age, Faith is determined to make something of herself and becomes a teacher. Sadly, she is judged unfairly and looses her job and is cast out. Faith has a nurturing nature and has nursed Spirit, (a medicine hat spirit horse) that seems just as protective of her as she sets out to find Yellow Feather, who she believes to be the horses true owner.
Eagle Feather is a warrior that is often hunted and feared. He meets Faith on the trail and before long becomes her protector. But, Faith is a strong, intelligent woman and in turn protects Eagle too.
This story is so well written and so descriptive, you easily get transported to the old west and are traveling on the trail with Faith and Eagle.A beautiful , sweet, romantic, heartwarming story you won't want to miss.
I was so happy to receive this set as a gift.
