And when I say happily ever after, it DOES. NOT. COME. CHEAP! Every time and I do mean every time I read a book in this series, my heart is put through the ringer. Forget about the characters’ hearts, MINE. Okay, I’m acting selfish, but seriously I bet the author giggles hysterically while writing her books because my heart also breaks along with the characters. This is why I love these books.
I love me some chivalrous knights, but when they are dishonored, they’re even better. Poor Alric. I felt bad that I knew a secret about him that even he didn’t know. It was a cruel thing indeed and the secondary characters involved are the worst kind of villains. Let’s just say it’s not a cozy familial environment. Tragedy follows Alric and leaving home dishonored finds him working for another (much nicer!) family.
So, although it’s not insta-love, Alric’s and Avelyn’s romance is realized early. But it’s not a fact that should ease any readers’ minds because there is always something that throws a wrench into their plans. It’s the feeling of a false sense of security that makes it feel like the calm before the storm.
If you love these kinds of reads, do pick up this book or series because it’s kind of addicting. It can be read as a standalone, but getting introduced to the key secondary characters from the previous books helps make it more entertaining. No cliffhangers, just HEA’s.
My heart hurt for Kenric Fairfax, as he was the victim of a spiteful Nursemaid, and denied the affection of his Mother, who showered her
adoration on his twin brother. Sadly, for Kenric, the strong resemblance that he had to his Father hurt him in the eyes of his Mother and Nursemaid, as they hated his Father for how horribly he had treated them. Kenric was nothing like his cruel Father and grew to be a kind and noble Knight.
When Kenric's path crosses with the lovely and sweet Avelyn Le Clerc, and his feelings start to grow for her, he is tormented by the fact that he can not give Avelyn the life he feels that she deserves, as he is not heir to his family estate...oh, if only the truth would come to light!
Journey to Honor features an excellent glimpse into what life would have been like in medieval times. I especially enjoyed the rich detail that Alexa Aston provided regarding the Knighting Ceremony!
A captivating and enthralling story!
When we meet Kenric, he’s a knight who has lost his honor due to a tragedy, which causes him to leave his past behind and go far away from home. It is here he becomes a knight for Lord Michael Devereaux and is assigned to go retrieve his sister-in-law, the beautiful Lady Avelyn Le Cler, from court to arrive in time for the delivery of her sister’s first child at Sandbourne.
Avelyn is ready for a break from court. Eager to return to the country, she gets more than she expected when she has to ride with Kenric on the journey to back to her sister. It is on this trip that love begins to bloom between the guarded Kenric and spirited Avelyn. This road is not easy, full of twists and turns as well as deceptions from some people who are supposed to be the ones closest to them. In the end, will love and honor prevail? Another page turner from Ms. Aston and I can’t wait for the next installment in the series!
