It would read as a fine example of leadership/self-help/psychological pep talk literature without the Masonic symbols--the benefit for us as Freemasons is that the insights shared are that much more vivid since they are connected with visual symbols we are all familiar with.
I don't see much, if any benefit this book would have to a non-Mason. The Masonic references are purposefully vauge, that only someone intimately familiar with the ritual can appreciate. As a non-Mason, you would also gather very little useful information on the organization and its practices, other than one member's interpretation of our symbols. I don't view this as a weakness of the book--the introduction states its purpose for Members only, and not as a "mouthpiece" to educate the uninitiated about the Fraternity.
Last word: Good read for Freemasons that are familiar with the Ritual and are looking for a more contemporary, less history-laden, philosophical discussion about what we strive for as Masons.
