From the Author
Memoirists struggle with how to begin a memoir, sort through the files of shimmering memories, and come up with a story--not journal entries--that transport the reader into another time, place, and world. As a memoir coach and teacher, I'm always coming up with new ways to help people write their stories, and this book arises out of the many exercises I've developed over more than a decade of teaching memoir writing.
The workbook is a workshop--you can work your way through all the exercises, and as you quilt together your stories, you can finish your memoir in a few months. As the subtitle suggests, there are several stages to writing a memoir, and the most challenging is the "Muddy Middle!" Confusing questions about truth, memory, and protecting family members keep people from writing their memoir. Other issues include the need to write the memoir for healing, but worries about what should be published. Then there is the agent, publishing, and marketing process that can drag a writer down with overwhelm. There are solutions to all of these questions!
Journey of Memoir guides you through all the steps you need to know that will help you get your memoir finished, all the way to holding your own published book in your hands! Let me know how it helps you.
