The Journeymen today are probably most remembered because two of their members went on to bigger stardom in the mid sixties. John Phillips became a founding member of the Mamas & the Papas who got as big as one could be in 1966, and Scott McKenzie in 1967 had one of the biggest hits of the year with San Francisco(Be Sure To Wear Some Flowers In Your Hair).
But like many of the major performers of the mid sixties, they had their roots in the big Folk Music Explosion of the early sixties. This album, their first, came out early in 1961, and though never folk superstars, they proved popular enough to put out several albums throughout that era.
They have a pleasant harmonic sound with guitar and banjo accompaniment, reminiscent of the Kingston Trio, especially in their upbeat numbers. They did traditional folk from the Appalachians to the British Isles but also wrote their own material. Anyone who enjoyed the Folk Era will enjoy this album.
A note about the price. This is one of those cd's that were licensed for a few years by an "oldies-oriented label" from a big label that wasn't interested in putting it out. What happens then is that it has to go out of print when the license is up and from then on resellers charge big prices to people who want them. But if you are intrigued by the group, at least their Greatest Hits are still available (in 2012) at normal prices.

This is a very good album, really captures the essence of the early 60's folk movement when groups like the Journeymen came, flourished, and went. All of its members went on to bigger and better things, but for a brief shining moment, they played and sang some beautiful music. The CD also includes tracks that are not on the original LP, so for me well worth the purchase price.

This item was labeled on the Amazon site as CD. After I initiated the purchase

the seller ssent a message cofirming the purchase and warning that the item was

an LP and not a CD. He pointed out that the Amazon site does not provide a way to indicate

that an album is an LP / "Vinal" except in the sellers info.

He agreed to refund and cancel the order.

No fault to the seller, but Amazon should represent the product more accurately.

Old "folk" lovers will appreciate the intricate harmonies of The Journeymen. The CD has a nice assortment of songs, the quality and quantity are also excellent. The value for your money is exceptional.
