It is therefore very refreshing to pick up a book and find in the first few pages that the author says "Also, you’ve no doubt noticed The Joy Of Imperfection is a short book. That’s by design. In my experience, the most effective way to reverse any self-defeating behavior is through the application of healthy, countervailing practices - hence, the exercises in Part III. You don’t need a 400-page opus that dives deeply into psychology and neuroscience. It would only slow you down."
This book is divided into 3 parts - Part I discusses the various underlying reasons why you might be a perfectionist. This section can almost feel like the author knows you better than you know yourself and this deep understanding of the reader makes the book very effective and plausible.
Part II discusses some signs that your perfectionism is out of control and how to recognise these.
And Part III gives you a complete action guide on how to overcome your perfectionism.
This book is very concise and to the point - there is 0 fluff here.
Without giving too much of the book away, my main takeaways were as follows:
Due to my perfectionism, I can be vary of taking risks and I can tend to procrastinate. This is why when I started my online business, I was very scared to offer my services and I procrastinated for a long long time because in my eyes, I was not the absolute perfect person in my space. As a result, I'm always essentially screwing myself - I have lofty goals in my business but then I procrastinate because everything needs to be perfect. And then I'm left frustrated as to why I haven't hit my goals yet:(
I now look forward to applying the exercises in Part III of the book to overcome these tendencies.

He then goes on to explain the signs for perfectionsim in order to help identify if you and I have this harmful mindset, with even a test to really help identify this common difficulty a lot of people go through.
After having had clear that I AM A PEFECTIONIST, he gave me an extensive action paln with exercises to take a really good look at perfectionism in me and take a part this bad habit. My favorite exercise was: To do something at which you are unskilled. This is unspeakable to me! I realized from this exercise that I don't have to know how to do something 100% correct (which is impossible anyways) and I can just take action with the skills I have so far, which he explains are most of the time sufficient to take action and get good results.
The most important line in his book for me was his assurance that ''It's important to remember that being imperfect doesn't consign you to a life of mediocrity. Far from it. You can still be extraordinary!'' This allowed me to relax and really accept that I don't need to be a perfectionist to be AMAZING and that's more than I can ever ask for!
Definitely recommended read!! Embrace imperfeccionism in your life. It has helped me reduce my stress and feel good about myself. I'm sure it will do this and more for you, too!
Overall I found it to be a very enjoyable, informative book.
