From the Author
A PERSONAL NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR Curled up in my bed, emotional pain gnawing at my belly, feeling spiritually adrift, I couldn't remember what it felt like to be happy. Or even neutral. If this seems familiar to you, I understand and I want to help. Thanks to the practices in this book I'm even keeled now, I have a close connection to Spirit and I'm truly happy. I want to share this feeling of "joy for no reason." Just follow my blueprint and make these daily self-help practices into habits. If you are like me, your day is jam-packed so practices that take only minutes seem magical. In "Joy! Joy! Joy!" I encourage you to stay on track by starting with only 2 practices, then adding more as each becomes second nature. 12 weeks of Daily Practice Checklists in the back of the book help you anchor new habits and realize deep-rooted joy and happiness, no matter how absurd life gets.

The book is a guide to daily practices that she has adopted to align herself with health, happiness and a fulfilling life. Some of the 7 habits may be well-known in the Body Mind Spirit world and even if you are a meditator and are familiar with what she talks about, she offers a new twist on all of it. I especially like the way she presented the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). I learned the practice many years ago and needed a refresher. I never thought I could learn it from the book, she made it so easy!
Each of the practices is offered in a way that is refreshing, practical, and totally doable, not to mention entertaining and funny. I love her honesty in sharing her personal stories. It took a lot of courage, she is a great model to all of us. I have already purchased the book for family members and I cannot think of anyone I know who cannot benefit from this book!
This is a responsible approach to self-help. The author strongly advises individuals to seek supervision from a competent medical practitioner for deep depression. As a physician, I am keenly aware of the stress, anxiety, depression and even PTSD that can occur after the disclosure of life threatening diagnosis like cancer. Referral to a mental health specialist is sometimes required. A self-help program can be coupled to the therapeutic interventions of a specialist. But, I would like to point out, this book is useful to individuals who occasional or frequently suffer from the blues associated with life’s problems.
I especially found the third chapter, Say/Write an Affirmation, especially useful and helpful. I recommend that my patients start a journal, and I fully agree with the author’s suggestion in chapter two that writing a memoir is an excellent approach to releasing trauma. Humor is also an important component to Ellen’s self-help practice.
Whether the potential reader of this book, already is using a self-help practice, or is someone who would like to start or needs to start a program, this is an enjoyable and useful text. Does this seven-step practice work? It certainly does for Ellen Wood! Anybody who can write and publish a book at 80 years of age, must be doing something right.

As always, Ellen Wood doesn't disappoint. Get the book. Read the book. Practice the steps and in Ellen's words, "Something good will come of this."
