The pages are a heavyweight white paper. This is fantastic as my pencils, gel pens, and ultra fine markers (except for Sharpies) do not bleed through on this paper. The designs are printed on only one side with the back side left blank, so if you are using regular markers or watercolors, you can put an extra page in between just in case some color leaches through.
The pages are perforated and are extremely easy to remove. The paper is also acid-free which means that the paper will not turn colors with age and all the work you put into coloring the designs will be safe. Additionally, the binding easily lies flat and gives you access to make coloring in this book and easy and fun thing to do.
It is a fun book to color in and the heavy, bold lines make it easy to put my colors in exactly the right spot.
Most of the designs a full page, printed right up to the edge. 3 or 4 of the designs are centered on the page with a border (see my colored example). I love the fact that the designs aren't too tiny. My eyes just can't handle microscopic detail, nor am I patient enough to finish it. This is enough detail to keep you interested, but not need a magnifying glass. Only one of the designs would require fine tip markers--most of them are suitable for colored pencils, crayons, markers, and even watercolor media as I discovered!
The only negative is that the product description says "•Binding lies flat for ease of use", and mine does not even come close to laying flat! But the pages are perforated and easy to remove, which I like to do and use a clipboard.
I also have the Mandala book in this same series, and it is also great!

•Thick pages (I'm guessing 80lb) with a mostly smooth finish.
•Original images that don't repeat (I'm looking at you, Leisure Arts books)
