I recently discovered Kathleen and find her books very intriguing and very hard to put down. I recently read the Aspen Notch Mysteries and felt like I was right in the middle of all the action. With Poustinia, I longed go to be in a cabin enjoying nature, the lake and all the peaceful sounds of nature and the chance to recuperate. Kathleen writes well and the books are very enjoyable.

It could be either! If you read Poustinia you will love the closure, or partial closure, of Joyful Encounters. If you haven't read Poustinia you will enjoy Joyful Encounters on its own because it is a good story with endearing characters.
One of the best things about Joyful Encounters is the number of possible new storylines that may emerge from it. Will we be drawn into a long past underworld? Or perhaps we will enter the sometimes mysterious life of a religious? Maybe the adventures of senior citizen newlyweds will be explored. Or who knows where we will be led. We can hope for another sequel or even better, we can hope for a series!

The first book in the series I described as delightful and I am definitely happy with this book being called "joyful". New friendships from book one develop but not at the exclusion of welcoming more new friends. Possibilities of how to help the nuns at the monastery start coming to fruition and more are added. The mystery to be explored in the basement of the building was intriguing. The lovely thing is that the characters cover a wide age range and each are embracing new things. It is almost like as the supporting friends start working & living along side the nuns that you have 2 communities co-existing along side each other & each benefiting each other as well as themselves. There are a few surprises along the way & I couldn't wait to read book 3 so I did so before taking time to leave this review!
